3. Quán Chè Đèn Dầu
Opened in 1976, Quán Chè Đèn Dầu on Nguyễn Kiệm Street (Phu Nhuan District) has become a beloved spot for many, particularly popular with the youth of Saigon. Established nearly 45 years ago, the shop is a local favorite and has also attracted visitors from afar, especially tourists exploring Ho Chi Minh City.
"Many people call my shop 'Quán Chè Đèn Dầu' because I’ve always used an oil lamp to light up the dessert pots. Even though there are street lights now, I’ve never stopped this tradition. After all these years, customers can easily spot the soft glow of the lamp and know it’s the hot dessert shop without needing the address," says Mrs. Sáu. Over the years, her shop has sold only five types of chè: steamed bananas, floating sticky rice, apple chè, white beans, and green beans with tapioca. Each bowl is very affordable, with floating sticky rice being the only slightly more expensive option. Despite its simplicity, this long-standing dessert shop offers an exceptional value for money.
