Released on February 25th, one of the most anticipated AAA titles of 2022 exploded onto the scene as over half a million gamers played Elden Ring on Steam within the first few hours of release. Combining the challenging gameplay of Dark Souls with an open-world setting, Elden Ring has captured the hearts of gamers worldwide.
As a Soulsborne title developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring's difficulty rivals that of the renowned Dark Souls series. Many players found the first boss encounter in Elden Ring to be exceptionally challenging. Margit the Fell Omen, the inaugural boss of Elden Ring, is designed to test players' abilities before delving into the main storyline. This formidable boss proved to be a daunting challenge for first-time Souls players, with some spending up to 20 hours to defeat Elden Ring's initial boss.
According to Steam achievement statistics, a staggering 70.4% of Elden Ring players successfully defeated the first boss, Margit the Fell Omen. The majority also demolished Stormveil Castle and vanquished boss Godrick, with a completion rate of 61%. However, approximately 30% of Elden Ring players either gave up or failed to defeat the first boss within three weeks of the game's official release. This trend is characteristic of FromSoftware titles, known for their punishing difficulty that often leads players to quit early on.

A free 'easy mode' mod has recently been released on PC, reducing player damage taken by half, increasing player damage dealt by 25%, and multiplying the number of runes obtained by tenfold. Described as catering to 'casual gamers' who want to experience Elden Ring's storyline without enduring excessive punishment, this mod offers a more accessible gameplay experience.
