Emotional intelligence (EQ), as per Psychology Today, refers to an individual's ability to recognize and manage their own and others' emotions. EQ is demonstrated through 3 skills: emotional awareness, relationship management, and self-regulation.
According to R. Boyatzis and D. Goleman, there are 12 elements in emotional intelligence competency [1]. Additionally, according to Quora, there are also 12 signs indicating low EQ [2].

Below are those 12 signs; take a look to see if any apply to you.
- Failure to apologize. Your ego takes precedence over admitting your mistakes.
- Inwardly leaning towards pessimism and problem-solving skills are almost non-existent in difficult times.
- Lack of concern for others.
- Lack of insight and caution in perceiving people, personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Lack of empathy.
- Unable to handle criticism without worrying, blaming, or defending.
- Lack of cues from those around, disregarding details about people's personalities and their reactions towards you.
- Tendency to be manipulated, especially by ideologies or individuals focusing on your personal issues.
- Failure to compliment deserving individuals. Holding grudges in one way or another.
- Ungratefulness for what you do or do not possess.
- Lack of emotional autonomy.
- Lying.

People with high EQ not only refrain from lying but also do not deny the truth. There was once a wise person who said:
“Let the truth hurt me, but never comfort me with lies.”
This quote is very accurate and holds personal value for many. By almost disrespecting the truth, you may hurt someone for a day or two, but if you lie to them, you will hurt them for life.
