18-Year-Old Prodigy Launches Dazzling Cyber Assaults on NVIDIA and Uber

An autistic hacker has caused leading technology companies such as NVIDIA, Uber, and GTA to struggle due to continuous cyberattacks.

In a seven-week trial in London, the case involving the young cybercriminal Kurtaj, who is now 18, has garnered widespread attention from the public and legal experts. Kurtaj and an unnamed 17-year-old accomplice, both juveniles, face charges including extortion, fraud, and network attacks.

However, notably, Kurtaj received a diagnosis from a doctor when he was young, confirming a complex autism spectrum disorder. According to this doctor, Kurtaj has a cognitive rate of only 1% compared to his peers. Faced with this information, the trial judge decided that Kurtaj is not fit to stand trial.

This means he cannot be deemed to have 'criminal intent' in the charges he faces. With such a mental condition, Kurtaj may not face imprisonment but could instead be subject to community-based treatment orders or placed in mental health care facilities.

Before the cyber onslaught, Kurtaj resided with his mother and younger brother in Oxfordshire. Dr. Nicholas Hindley, the physician who provided treatment for Kurtaj in the past, expressed that he is 'an individual with particularly compromised health.' He also recounted his initial encounter with Kurtaj when he was attending a school for children with special needs, struggling to control his behavior.

According to Kurtaj's attorney, despite lacking formal education since the age of 14, he has been discovered engaging in various cyber offenses, including intrusion and exposing vulnerabilities in the cybersecurity systems of major companies. The Kurtaj case has raised numerous questions about handling cybercrime involving individuals with mental health conditions and whether the current legal approach is the best way to address similar cases in the future.

In today's digital age, the risk from young hackers is escalating, causing severe consequences for society. These hackers often possess profound knowledge of information technology and computer networks, enabling them to launch unpredictable attacks and infiltrate network systems.
