(Homeland) - Developers of certain games have altered their main characters within the storyline.
Most games typically feature a sole main character guided by players throughout their adventure. However, occasionally, this continuity is disrupted as some developers prefer surprising players by straightforwardly swapping the main character midway. This is often done to create dramatic plot twists successfully employed by several games. Notable examples include the following:
LA Noire
Throughout the majority of LA Noire, players embody Cole Phelps, experiencing the full spectrum of emotions and the successes and failures of this detective. However, everything changes when Cole's deception of his wife is exposed, leading to his demotion to the arson investigation desk. While investigating cases of house fires and explosions, Cole uncovers a mysterious conspiracy.

Nevertheless, Cole's investigation is thwarted as his colleagues are implicated in the case. Consequently, he enlists the help of an old acquaintance, Jack Kelso, to replace him in uncovering the secrets. From then on, players in LA Noire take on the role of Jack Kelso for the remaining part of the game.
Assassin's Creed 3
In the first few hours of playing Assassin's Creed 3, players assume the role of Haytham Kenway. Wielding a sleek sword, frequently sneaking and executing assassinations, most would assume that Haytham is a genuine assassin.

However, surprisingly, he is a Templar - an organization at odds with the assassin's guild. After this revelation, players shift to the perspective of the true main character, Connor - Haytham's son. Throughout the remaining part of the series, gamers continue the adventure as the game's most formidable assassin, Connor.
Metal Gear Solid 2
Sometimes changes in main characters don't bring positive effects as many developers envision, and Metal Gear Solid 2 is the most glaring example. Initially, players take on the role of Snake. However, after the storyline leads to the sinking of a military oil tanker with Snake inside, the game swiftly shifts to two years in the future. From here, the new main character becomes Raiden.

Snake still engages in the game as a supporting character, but this later failed to prevent Metal Gear Solid 2 fans from expressing outrage at this decision from the developers. According to them, the main character, Raiden, couldn't captivate the audience like Snake did.
