Typing text is one of the essential skills that any computer user needs to spend time learning. But if you don't have the '10-finger' typing ability, you can refer to some small tips below to achieve the fastest and most accurate typing speed.
Use Unikey's shortcut feature
Unikey is one of the most popular Unicode Vietnamese typing programs in Vietnam for Unicode Vietnamese users. This free software allows typing Unicode Vietnamese in Word, Excel, and many other programs on any Windows operating system.
However, there are still many office computer users who are not aware of the very useful shortcut feature of this free program.
If you are still using other Vietnamese typing software, you should switch to Unikey to experience this feature. Unikey is completely free, compact in size. Download Unikey program
First, you need to activate the shortcut typing feature by opening the Unikey program, selecting the Extensions tab. Then check Enable shortcut typing in the Shortcut typing options section. After selecting, press Close to save the changes.
Next, you begin assigning shorthand words by right-clicking on the V icon and selecting Compose shorthand.
In the Macro Definition dialog box, enter the keyword to be assigned in the Replace box and the shorthand word in the With box. For example, if you want to use the shorthand 'tt' to type the phrase 'Mytour,' you need to enter 'tt' in the Replace box, and 'Mytour' in the With box.
After entering, press Save for Unikey to perform shorthand typing. One note is that the shorthand sequence only contains unaccented letters or numbers. The shorthand sequence is case-sensitive.
The usage is as simple as that, but to achieve 'super speed,' you need to remember a large number of shorthand words. However, this is not too difficult to implement, you just need to note the following points:
The first thing to note is to assign shortcuts for common Vietnamese words such as 'but, many, and...' and common phrases for work such as 'today, content, activities, development, plans, production...'
* Stop shorthand typing:
Another note is that if you want to temporarily pause shorthand typing without exiting Unikey, press the Pause/Break key. In case you want to type a space after the shorthand 'vn' without it being changed to 'Vietnam,' you can hold down the SHIFT key before pressing Space (the spacebar key).
*Edit shorthand list:
To edit the shorthand words, you also open the Compose shorthand section, select the word to be edited, enter the new keyword in the Replace box, then press Edit, finally, select Save to close the dialog box.
*Delete a shorthand word:
To delete a shorthand word, you follow the same steps as when editing: select the word to be removed and then click Delete, press Save for Unikey to execute the command.
Disable Touchpad on Laptop
The touchpad on laptops sometimes annoys users because even a slight touch can move the cursor, causing typed characters to change their position or appear incorrectly. Editing text will take longer with the need to correct mistyped words.
Some laptops have a toggle button (or use the function key) to turn the touchpad on/off, by simultaneously pressing 2 keys Fn and F7 (Note that different laptop models will have different function keys, so you can try each function key if you don't know)
Một số laptop có nút chuyển (hoặc dùng phím chức năng) bật/tắt cho touchpad, bằng cách ấn đồng thời 2 phím Fn và F7 (Chú ý rằng, từng loại Laptop khác nhau sẽ có phím chức năng khác nhau, các bạn có thể thử từng phím chức năng nếu chưa biết)
After installation and startup, the Touchpad Blocker interface appears quite simple. There are 4 pre-marked options: Automatically run program on startup (automatically activate the Touchpad Blocker program when Windows starts), Block accidental taps and clicks (lock the touchpad when detecting fast continuous keyboard typing speed within a certain time, measured in milliseconds - default is 300 milliseconds). After setting up, click the X (Close) button to close the program window.
Always keep the keyboard clean
The keyboard is a daily contact area and is prone to dirt due to the environment or user eating habits. Substances can adhere to the key surface or get into the gaps between the keys, causing keyboard jams or even device damage.
Computer keyboards also often accumulate a lot of dust and fingerprints because they are one of the most frequently touched devices by office users in daily life.
To clean your computer keyboard effectively and quickly, simply turn the device upside down and shake it vigorously to dislodge any dust. You can also use a brush (usually included in laptop cleaning kits) to sweep clean between the keys. Then, take a cotton swab or soft cloth soaked in 90% alcohol and wipe the keyboard surface as well as between the keys. Alcohol is a very effective cleaning agent.
For small crevices where dust is trapped and cannot be swept away with a brush, you can use a small cotton swab to dislodge the stubborn dust before wiping with a cloth or paper soaked in alcohol.
Practice Typing Text
There are many software programs available to practice typing with all ten fingers, such as TypingMaster Pro. This software is highly regarded and widely used by many people. However, for those new to touch typing, attention to technique and skill is necessary to achieve higher efficiency in ten-finger typing. This skill was also introduced by the author in the previously successful article on ten-finger typing training, which readers can refer to.
