Some seemingly dubious suggestions from taxi drivers can lead to unfair financial loss without you even realizing it.
4 Ways You're Vulnerable to Deception by Bangkok Drivers
1. Unusually Generous Tuk Tuk Drivers
When visiting Bangkok, if a tuk tuk driver in the city center, especially in Pratunam market, offers an enticing trip to Chatuchak market for a very cheap price, around 40 baht/ride/segment (approximately 28,000 VND), be cautious. Typically, they will insist on making a stop at a clothing store advertised as having very attractive and fashionable products. You'll likely be taken to a suit or traditional Thai clothing store – something most of us have no interest in, and the prices are very high. After browsing and refusing the sales pitches, when you return to the tuk tuk, you'll be taken back to your original location almost as a form of 'punishment.' While they won't take your fare, this is extremely time-consuming and inconvenient for passengers.

2. Buying Gemstones in Bangkok

3. Drivers Suggesting Alternative Destinations to 'Grand Palace'.
Grand Palace is a must-visit tourist spot in Bangkok. However, if you encounter an overly enthusiastic tuk tuk driver who offers you an alternative itinerary that seems more interesting and cheaper, claiming that Grand Palace is about to close or not open to visitors that day, think twice before deciding. By accepting the driver's tour, you may spend less money and feel happier initially, but in hindsight, you'll realize that you missed out on an interesting destination with a rich history in Thailand.
Note: Grand Palace is open from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and rarely closes.

4. Pricing for Boats to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
This is the most famous and oldest floating market in Thailand, located quite far from central Bangkok. Therefore, you'll need to hire a car or taxi to get there. Most drivers will stop at the motorboat pier, about a few hundred meters away from the market, for passengers to rent a boat. However, the rental prices here are quite expensive. Typically, the staff will quote around 1,000 baht per person (approximately 700,000 VND per person) citing peak hours or boat congestion (if you visit in the morning). Even if tourists try to negotiate, they can only reduce it to around 400 baht per person (approximately 280,000 VND per person), whereas the actual price is about 600 baht per boat for 6 people (approximately 420,000 VND per boat for 6 people). If you cannot negotiate the price or book a tour from Bangkok, it's best to ask the driver to take you directly to the market and then rent a paddleboat to cruise along the river.
