A gigantic great white shark emerges from the depths, terrorizing swimmers along the coast. Police Chief Martin Brody urges Mayor Larry Vaughn to shut down the beaches to keep the public safe, but Vaughn refuses, fearing financial loss for the town. After a tiger shark is caught, Vaughn proclaims the beaches safe, yet marine biologist Matt Hooper arrives and confirms the true predator is much larger. Ignoring warnings, professional shark hunter Quint is offered $10,000 to eliminate the shark. On the Fourth of July, the shark claims another life, prompting Brody to convince Vaughn to hire Quint. Brody, Hooper, and Quint embark on the Orca to hunt the shark. Hooper's attempt to poison the shark in a diving cage is thwarted when the shark attacks. He manages to escape to safety. The shark then attacks the boat, causing it to start sinking and kills Quint. Brody, left with no other choice, blows up the shark by shooting a gas tank in its mouth. Brody and Hooper then return to shore, clinging to debris.

During her final surf of the day, Nancy spots a humpback whale carcass nearby. A massive great white shark knocks her off her surfboard and bites her leg. She climbs onto the whale carcass, but as the shark tears it apart from below, she's forced to swim to an isolated rock. Using her surf leash as a tourniquet, she then crudely stitches her wounds with her jewelry. Left alone after local beachgoers depart, she spends the night on the rock with an injured red seagull she names Steven Seagull. The next morning, a drunk local man steals Nancy's belongings but is killed by the shark while attempting to take her surfboard in shallow water. Later, two locals she had seen surfing return, enter the water before Nancy can warn them, and are also killed by the shark. One of the surfers had worn a GoPro camera on his helmet, which dislodges during his attack and floats to the surface. Nancy retrieves it, discovers footage of the shark attack revealing a large hook stuck in the shark's mouth from a previous encounter with fishermen. Using the GoPro, she leaves a message for her sister and father, detailing the shark attack and her location. What will she do next to survive this ordeal?

The Shallows Reimagined (2016)The story kicks off with lifeguards Josh and Rory chatting at the beach, where Josh meets his girlfriend, Tina, discussing her upcoming trip to Singapore. Suddenly, a great white shark appears, killing a swimmer. Josh attempts a daring rescue for Rory but fails as the shark drags Rory under. A year later, Josh encounters Tina and her new boyfriend, Steven, at a supermarket where he works. Amidst this, Kyle and Heather are found in a compromising situation in the parking lot, and young Jaime is caught shoplifting by supermarket manager Jessup, leading to chaos involving Jaime's father, Officer Todd, and an armed robbery gone wrong by Doyle and his accomplice, resulting in a hostage situation. A tsunami hits, flooding the supermarket with survivors trapped inside along with a great white shark brought in by the waves. Amidst the threat of live electrical wires, Steven heroically attempts to shut off the power in homemade armor but tragically drowns. The survivors, including Jessup, attempt to escape through the air vents, leading to a deadly encounter with the shark. Below in the flooded parking lot, Kyle, Heather, and Ryan seek a way out, only for Kyle to be devoured by a second shark. The supermarket survivors concoct a desperate plan to trap the shark using a hook and pork as bait, leading to a tense standoff involving Kirby, Doyle's revealed accomplice. In a dramatic turn, Doyle kills Kirby, using him as bait instead, which allows the shark to be temporarily incapacitated.
