Procedures
Converting via the Web (Computer)
Go to https://cloudconvert.com/video-converter. While there are numerous websites available for converting video files to MP3, CloudConvert stands out for its reliability and user-friendly interface. Click the provided link or enter it into your browser to begin the process.
- This method is suitable if you already have a video file saved on your computer.
Click the 'Choose File' button. This prominent red button can be found at the center of the page. Clicking it will launch your computer's File Explorer, enabling you to locate the video file you wish to convert.
- Additionally, the button features a small arrow on its right side, allowing you to access videos from various storage locations, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive.
Choose a file. Whether your video is stored locally on your computer or in the cloud, locate and select the file. It will be automatically imported into the CloudConvert website.
- The website should detect the file type of your imported video and display it at the top of the page. Double-check the detected file type to ensure you are performing the correct conversion (e.g., MP4 to MP3, MOV to MP3, etc.)
Select MP3 as the output format. CloudConvert offers the ability to convert video files into various other formats, including different types of video files. Click the dropdown menu next to Convert to... and choose Audio to access the MP3 option we require.
- There is also an option for 'Image' conversions, allowing you to convert a video into a GIF if desired.
- CloudConvert supports batch conversion, so if you need to convert multiple videos into MP3, click the black 'Add more files' button and import your additional files, setting each one to convert to MP3.
Click the red 'Convert' button. Located on the right side of your screen, this button initiates the conversion process. While the site typically processes files quickly, larger video files may take a bit longer to convert.
Hit the green 'Download' button. Once the conversion is complete, your file will appear onscreen in its new format. However, to use it offline, you must download it. Simply click the Download button, and the file will download immediately.

Using VLC for Conversion (Computer)
Download and install VLC media player. If you're looking to convert a video already stored on your computer to MP3, consider using VLC Media Player. This versatile, free open-source media player also doubles as a file converter, allowing you to convert files into various formats. You can download VLC Media Player from http://www.videolan.org.
Access the 'Media' menu in VLC and choose 'Convert / Save'. This action will open up the conversion tool.
Click the Add... button and select the video file.
Click the Convert / Save button to initiate the conversion process.
Choose 'Audio - MP3' from the 'Profile' dropdown menu.
Click on Browse, name your file, and save it. Ensure it's saved in a location you can easily access. Click the Start button to commence the conversion process.
Wait for the conversion to complete. VLC will play through the entire video during the conversion process, so it will take approximately the same amount of time as the original video duration.
Converting YouTube Videos (Computer)

Visit a YouTube downloading website. Numerous online platforms enable you to download YouTube videos as MP3 files. While they operate similarly, we'll focus on using GetMP3, accessible at https://www.getmp3.pro.
- GetMP3 is perhaps the top choice for converting specifically to MP3, offering more options for customizing the resulting MP3 file. However, it doesn't support conversion to other file formats as some other sites do (except for MP4 or M4A).
- Other alternatives to explore:
Insert the URL of the YouTube video into the provided box on the downloading site. This box is typically labeled as 'URL' and is prominently displayed.
Click on the magnifying glass icon. This action initiates a search for the video on YouTube. Ensure that the displayed video matches the one you intend to convert and download.
- Depending on the website, you may be prompted to enable a Java plugin.
Choose the 'MP3' options. GetMP3 allows you to specify the file size of the resulting MP3. The default 320 kbps is typically the highest quality and is generally preferred, but you can opt for a smaller file size if needed.
Click on the 'Download' button. This button is typically black with a red outline. Clicking it will initiate the download process for the video's audio in MP3 format, which should complete relatively quickly.

Using Video to MP3 (Android)
Download the Video to MP3 app from the Google Play Store. It's a safe app developed by InShot Inc, available for free on the Google Play Store.
- Aside from converting videos to MP3, the app also offers built-in audio and video editors for trimming files to create ringtones, alarms, etc.
Launch the app. After downloading and installing the app, open it. The app icon features a music note on an orange background and a film reel on a purple background.
Tap the red 'Video to Audio' button on the app's main screen. The main screen presents various options, including audio and video cutters. For now, tap the Video to Audio button located in the top-left corner.
Choose your video file. Video to MP3 will list the video files on your device. You can filter them using the same storage options available elsewhere on your device. Once ready, tap on your desired video to proceed.
- You might need to grant the app permission to access your files before it can locate your video file.
Customize your conversion settings. Prior to converting your video file, the application enables you to trim the video, add relevant tags (especially useful for music videos), and select the desired audio format. While our preference is an MP3 file, alternatives like AAC, WMA, FLAC, WAV, or AC3 are available.

Launch the application. Upon completing the download and installation process, open the app. Look for its square blue logo featuring two cycling arrows at the center.
Choose your video. The Media Converter app's main screen should already list your phone's video files. Ensure you're on the Files tab, located at the far left of the bottom menu, then tap the desired file.
- You may need to grant the app permission to access your device's files first.
- If you can't find the file you want, you can manually import it by tapping the plus sign in the top-right corner.
Set the 'Conversion Type' to 'Extract Audio.' While the Media Converter app can compress videos and convert them to various formats, we specifically want to Extract Audio from our video.
Choose the file format as 'mp3' and review your settings. The Media Converter should default to MP3 when extracting audio, but it's wise to double-check. You can also adjust the volume and clip length if you only need a portion of the audio.
Tap 'Start Conversion.' Unless your file is very large, the conversion should be quick.
- The extracted audio file should be saved automatically on your device. You can find it in the 'Files' section of the Media Converter app.
- Your original video file will remain on your device.
Converting a YouTube Video (Android)
Copy the URL of the video you want to convert to MP3. If using the app, tap Share then Copy link. Alternatively, copy the full URL from your browser's address bar.

Paste the YouTube video's URL into the provided box on the conversion site. Locate the large search field labeled 'URL.'
Click the magnifying glass icon. This action searches for the video on YouTube. Double-check to ensure it's the correct video before proceeding with the conversion and download.
- Some sites may require you to enable a Java plugin.

Converting a YouTube Video (iPhone/iPad)
Download the Documents app by Readdle from the Apple App Store. Due to restrictions on iOS, directly downloading files from online YouTube converters isn't feasible. Documents provides a workaround.
- The app's logo features a large 'D' icon with yellow and green accents in the top-left corner.
Launch the app. Upon opening Documents for the first time, you'll be prompted to configure some basic settings. Skip through this setup until you reach the Documents home screen.
- Readdle may promote a subscription during setup; decline this by tapping the 'X'.
Access the in-app web browser. Navigate to the bottom menu of the Documents home screen and select Browser on the far-right. This launches Documents' web browser, which supports downloads.
Explore a YouTube conversion platform.
Grab the URL of the desired YouTube video for conversion.
Head back to Documents and insert the YouTube video URL into the designated area.
Adjust the file specifications to your preference and initiate the 'Download' process.
Select a location for saving the converted file.
Tap the downward arrow icon in the Document app to access your downloaded files.
Listen to your MP3 file either within the Document app or via the Files app on your phone.
