9. Thien Son Ngà Stream
Located about 70km from downtown Hanoi, Thien Son Ngà Stream is situated to the east of the Ba Vi mountain range, making it an ideal destination for day trips or weekend getaways for those looking for some outdoor adventure. Thien Son Ngà Stream reigns atop Tan Vien Mountain and is divided into three main areas: Lower Son, Middle Son, and Adventurous Son.
If Lower Son attracts tourists with Tam Cap waterfall, along with numerous small streams and winding bridges crossing the streams like silk ribbons, then Middle Son captivates visitors with charming stilt houses decorated with lanterns nestled on the mountainside, offering authentic mountainous delicacies such as roasted chicken, wild vegetable soup with mountain fish, and fermented shrimp paste… The highlight of the tourist area is the perennial Heavenly Gate waterfall.

To fully experience the beauty of Thien Son Ngà Stream, you should hike from Lower Son along the streamside trail to Upper Son, a path approximately 2km long winding along the stream, passing through some breathtaking sparse forests. Specialties here include Phu Nhi rice cake, Muong-style bamboo rice, Da River fish, beef, goat, smoked pork, and free-range chicken… You can visit Ngoc Nhi stork hill to enjoy stork meat and dishes made from birds that are both delicious and affordable, while soaking in the refreshing atmosphere.

Follow Lang – Hoa Lac Road, then at the end of the expressway, turn right onto Road 21 towards Son Tay (turn left for Xuan Mai). Along this road, pay attention to the sign on the left indicating the way to Khoang Xanh, then turn onto that road towards Da Chong (turn right at the first intersection). At the end of the road towards Da Chong, you'll reach the main road leading straight to Thien Son Ngà Stream (there will be signs on the right, indicating the direction for tourists to turn left, entering the tourist area with the Black Stone Temple, Ba Vi National Park, Ho Tien Sa tourist area,…)
Additionally, there is another simpler but longer route, which is to not turn onto the Khoang Xanh road but continue straight, then at the fourth intersection, turn left (turning right leads to the ancient village of Duong Lam), which leads directly to the road to Thien Son Ngà Stream. Following this road, you won't need to ask for directions, just keep going until you see signs, then turn onto them.
