Derived from the experiences of renowned travel blogger Sebastian, here are the reasons he presents to encourage young travelers to embark on memorable journeys, motivating you to pursue your own adventures.
At 25 years old, I had witnessed a third of the world's landmass, visited and lived in over 65 countries, and continue to journey onwards. The lessons learned from my global travels are perhaps indescribable. Along the way, I've met some of the most amazing people, tasted the finest cuisines, fallen in love more than once, and encountered many other fascinating experiences.
As a young man, traveling was merely a hobby, but today it has become an integral part of my life. Since becoming a professional travel blogger and exploring various parts of the world, I view life with a broader, more tolerant perspective. I'm still on the path to uncover captivating stories for myself, experiencing everything and making the world more familiar to you through my blog.
I've learned so much during my years of wandering, and I want to tell you that travel is a perfect antidote, capable of combating anything. Whether it's healing a broken heart, overcoming fear, or alleviating life's sorrows, travel serves as a remedy for all.
Still wondering why you should travel? Here's the answer I want to share with you!
1. For the people you'll meet
I remember when I was young, my closest friend was black, and I never cared about that. It wasn't until one day, my grandparents came to pick me up from school and said, 'Oh, you've never mentioned that your friend is black.' I probably never saw any difference between us. When we're young, we're open-minded and carefree, then societal norms and standards impose values that we must adhere to. Travel frees you from those norms; it allows you to see the world through your own eyes and perspective. You'll meet people from various cultures, yet you'll never impose or discriminate against them.
Ultimately, we're all human beings with thoughts and feelings. Travel takes you out of your comfort zone and introduces you to many new friends, many new cultures.
2. Your address book will be filled with names of different countries
Certainly, during your travels, you'll meet and get to know many wonderful friends; remember to keep in touch with them. Making a phone call or sending an email to chat is much better than just hitting the like button or commenting on their social media posts. Stay in touch so you have the chance to pack your bags and visit their country again.
3. Learn a new language
Learning a foreign language is often seen as a challenging task at home, but it becomes incredibly exciting and exhilarating when you learn it in the country you visit. Learning a foreign language is a way for you to 'survive' in a new land, and getting to know and converse with locals will make you more receptive and remember the language longer. After an enjoyable trip, at least you can confidently tell everyone back home that you also know a bit of that fascinating language.
4. Travel is the best university in life
Traveling to different countries around the world and learning about new cultures, the people here will teach you things you can't learn in school. Travel will teach you things like economics, geography, society, politics, culture, and much more. Most of what I know about business is from my own travels.
5. Enjoying delicious cuisine from around the world
Think back to the best meals you've ever enjoyed in your homeland, remember the feeling of taking that first bite, surely it was very pleasant and delicious, wasn't it? However, this feeling will be quadrupled when you travel and indulge in delicious, enticing cuisine from around the world.
6. Becoming a master storyteller
You'll always have fascinating stories on various topics that your friends care about, sharing your own experiences and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. You'll learn to tell a story naturally, captivating others, as these stories are real-life experiences you'll encounter during your travels.
7. You'll start life outside your peaceful corner
This statement may sound cliché, but starting life outside your peaceful corner means: You'll drive on the left side of the road, get lost in a dense forest in Thailand, cross a river on a shaky bridge, bungee jump over a dry river in Scotland...
8. You'll develop skills and confidence
Preparing a meal in a rural area of Thailand without any knowledge of the language, helping a community rebuild homes after a fierce storm, or climbing to the top of a mountain after multiple failures... all these will help you learn the skills you lack and build confidence for the future. You'll know that you're capable of achieving what you want. Especially in business, skills are essential qualities that every employer seeks in their employees.
9. To seize beautiful moments in life
Everyone knows we only live once, so make those moments of life impressive and memorable. And traveling is the best way to create beautiful moments in life.
