This article by Mytour will share with you some useful and commonly used tips while working with Google Docs - an excellent online tool for creating, editing, and sharing documents provided by Google.
To experience the following tricks, you need a Google account. If you don't have one yet or don't know how to sign up, you can refer to the simple steps to create a Google account.
1. Offline Accessibility
Google Docs allows for text creation and editing even without an Internet connection, with changes applying once your computer reconnects to the internet.
To apply the above, access Google Drive, select the gear icon at the top right corner, then choose settings. Check 'Sync your work to this computer so that you can edit offline' and click Done.
2. Real-Time Collaboration
With this feature, you can collaborate on text simultaneously with others. Both you and the collaborator will see changes immediately when someone edits the document.
Select File > Share to activate this feature. You can share privately via individual emails or allow anyone to make changes.
3. Publishing a Document
Google Docs enables you to publish a document directly online. Simply choose File > Publish to the web, then click start publishing. You'll receive a link to share with others.
This feature surpasses the sharing feature as all recipients of the link above can view it, whereas the sharing mode only allows shared individuals to view.
4. Navigate Forward/Backward
To quickly correct errors, use the shortcut Ctrl + '‘' to move to the next word or Ctrl + ';' to go back to the previous word instead of scrolling with the mouse.
5. Search and Insert Links
Google has enhanced its tool by integrating a search feature directly within the document. You no longer need to open a new tab, type in the search query, and copy the link. To achieve this, select Insert > Link, then type the keyword, and Google will find pages related to the keyword. Simply choose the link to insert.
6. Manage Personal Dictionary
If Google Docs mistakenly identifies a word you're typing as incorrect, simply add it to your personal dictionary by selecting Tools >Personal dictionary and editing the list of words. From then on, Google Docs won't recognize this as a misspelled word anymore. And if by chance you add a misspelled word, you can also go to this list and delete it.
7. Cut and Paste with Web Clipboard
Google Docs supports the Web Clipboard feature, requiring only a Google account to link Docs, Sheets, Slides. Web Clipboard differs from the clipboard of the computer's operating system in that it can store multiple items, supporting both text and images, across all Google documents.
To utilize this feature, simply select a piece of text, choose Customize, and use Web Clipboard. Clipboard data will be deleted after 30 days if there is no interaction with them.
8. Use the Research Tool
Google Docs features a sidebar to assist with research. To open it, select Tools > Research. This sidebar allows you to search for images, famous quotes, and web results, then insert them into your document.
9. Install Add-ons
