Feeding solid food is an important stage of child development. A baby's delicate body can be harmed and prone to disease if parents feed them inappropriate foods.
Ancient Vietnamese people placed great emphasis on the compatibility of foods when combining them. This is particularly important for young children, as combining foods incorrectly can not only deplete their nutritional value but also harm their bodies.
When a child starts the solid food stage, it is a transition from eating liquid or mushy foods to eating soft, solid foods. In addition to learning how to start feeding the child, how many meals a day to give, which foods are suitable, and the nutritional content, mothers also need to pay attention to the types of foods that should not be cooked together.
For your child to grow up smart and healthy, PasGo culinary suggests 9 pairs of foods that should 'never be cooked together' when making baby puree.
1. Beef and soybeans
Both of these foods have high protein content, so when cooked together, it can create an excess of protein, which can negatively affect the delicate digestive system of the baby and result in diarrhea.

2. Pork and beef
Pork has a cooling effect, while beef has a warming effect, so when cooked together, not only do they counteract each other but also lose their individual nutritional values.

3. Eel and beef
Both eel and beef are high-protein foods. Combining them causes the protein levels to exceed what the baby's body can handle, leading to diarrhea.

4. Seafood and beef
Seafood such as shrimp and crab is naturally rich in calcium, but when eaten with beef, the absorption of calcium is reduced, and it also interferes with the absorption of phosphorus from beef. Therefore, these two ingredients should not be combined.

5. Tomatoes with potatoes or sweet potatoes
Potatoes or sweet potatoes combined with tomatoes can easily cause indigestion, bloating, and digestive disorders in children.

6. Carrots and beets
Carrots contain enzymes that break down vitamin C. Therefore, the vitamin C content in beets will be destroyed by the enzymes in carrots if these two foods are cooked together. Cooking them together will prevent the baby from absorbing vitamin C.

7. Snails with chicken eggs
Both are high-cholesterol foods, so combining them will result in excess cholesterol in the blood. Adults should also avoid eating these two foods together as it can lead to sudden high blood pressure and death.

8. Cow's milk and sour fruits (oranges, grapefruits, lemons...)
Cow's milk is a very protein-rich food, but it also contains casein. The combination of fruits with milk can cause the denaturation of casein, forming a protein precipitate that is difficult to digest and absorb. Initially, this can cause diarrhea in babies, and if consumed for a long time, it can lead to methemoglobinemia, causing difficulty breathing, cyanosis, and increasing the risk of death. Additionally, the acidity in fruits can alter the properties of cow's milk, making it difficult to digest.

9. Milk and chocolate
Many mothers may think that milk is rich in protein and chocolate is high in energy, so consuming them together would be beneficial for the body. However, liquid milk combined with chocolate will cause the calcium in milk and the oxalic acid in chocolate to combine to form calcium oxalate salt. For young children, this combination not only prevents calcium absorption, leading to diarrhea, but also increases the risk of kidney stones and slows development.

We hope these tips will be more helpful for mothers in the feeding stage.
Best wishes to all mothers for raising healthy children!
