Humorous Poems About Storms
Poem No. 1: Urgent Announcement
Dear all, whether at sea or offshore,
Make haste to the nearest harbor and rest assured,
Avoid the tempest the skies have stirred,
For a Category 13 storm, fret we must,
It approaches the Southern coast, a formidable gust.
To avert calamity, be meticulous and wise,
Do not roam outside, to the storm's demise.
Lest it sweeps you with lightning's deadly blow,
Primarily in the depths, where rivers flow,
Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, our nation's land,
One after another, storms do command.
Into the whirlwind, homes do fall,
The storm draws nearer, no time to stall.
May peril not find us, we hope and pray,
Oh storm, depart, don't lead us astray.
Let not our tears mix with the rain's array,
For this lone mango tree, we plea, don't sway.
(Poem by Truong Dinh Dai)
Poem No. 2: Fleeing the Flood
I met a girl from the central region
But she's nowhere to be found today
Perhaps something's up at home
Or has she abandoned that online platform?
Her absence leaves me restless...
No signal on the phone... that's right, 'climb the tree'
Then came her message:
The power lines are down due to storm and flood.
Now she's up on the hill
House flooded, standing or sitting restlessly.
Stop worrying, my dear
After the storm, I'll marry you right away.
We'll live in the countryside, my love
No more scenes of flooding like this!
(Poem by Nguyen Lam)
Adapted Poem: Hanoi Streets
We still smell the mud from the pond
We still smell the sewage
That road is now a river
The two of us look at each other, water reaching our thighs
Poem Number 4:
Gazing upon the face of Hoan Kiem Lake, a sudden awe strikes,
Startled, only to see the vast water,
The solitary Turtle Tower floating aimlessly,
The lonely Ngoc Son Temple amidst golden trees...
People in the streets, bewildered, wade through,
Luxury cars sluggishly traverse the flowing water,
Storefronts bob up and down in the slapping waves,
The market desolate, devoid of goods...
Fishing lines taut, fishermen patiently wait,
Guiding their bicycles, women stride through the flood.
Iron gates and rusty grates now tightly shut,
The iron pipes stubbornly resisting to open...
Hanoi now transformed into Ha Long...
Add a bit more... I sell ladders!
Poem number 5: Hanoi in the season of countless rains
This season in Hanoi, the streets resemble rivers,
The early winter chill, my feet tremble immersed in cold water,
Milk flowers ceaselessly fall, my friend swims all afternoon in the streets,
Old Cau Go Street, now flooded with the waters of the Red River...
This season in Hanoi, evenings devoid of sunshine,
The streets empty, water rising to become rivers,
Roadside stalls submerged, water surging past hips,
This season in Hanoi, hearts filled with endless pain,
I recall nights so cold, hands intertwined,
Until last night, cold embraced my feet,
Now, cold envelops my entire being.
This season in Hanoi, the streets resemble rivers,
The early winter chill, my feet darkened by immersed water,
Milk flowers ceaselessly fall, my friend swims all afternoon in the streets,
Old Cau Go Street, now flooded with the waters of the Red River...
This season in Hanoi, people navigate through schools of fish,
The streets empty, water rising to become rivers,
Roadside stalls submerged, water surging past hips,
West Lake, overflowing to My Dinh...
This season in Hanoi, hearts filled with endless pain,
I recall nights so cold, hands intertwined,
Until last night, cold embraced my feet,
Now, cold envelops my entire being.
Poem number 6:
Yesterday the chilling wind came
Today, the coldness pierces through
The sky remains cold endlessly
Turning inside out, then inside in, the blanket
Unveiling rain, drops trickle
Calm, peaceful, you sleep under the blanket till afternoon
Hoping for heavy rain tomorrow
But there's no lover at home...
The east wind blows dust passing by
A storm raging as if crushing flowers, burying branches
Gathering into a big storm rampant
Becoming bursts of storms shattering China
The rain has just receded
This rain hasn't stopped yet, another rain bursts out
