Visiting temples has been a longstanding tradition of the Vietnamese people throughout history. Everyone, every family goes to temples to seek a sense of peace, to pray for blessings, for luck. The concise temple prayer includes Buddhist worship, offering to ancestors, the Triple Gem, Guanyin Bodhisattva, and the Earth Store Bodhisattva in the year 2024.
1. How to pray when visiting temples
Surely, many of us have accompanied our families to the temple to pay respects. But not everyone knows how to pray when visiting temples or the order of rituals, right?
The order of rituals when visiting the temple is as follows:
Step 1: Upon arriving at the temple, first acquire offerings. Place the offerings and light incense at the altar of Ancestor Deities.
Step 2: After placing offerings at the Ancestor Deities' altar, proceed to the main hall's incense table, place offerings, light three incense sticks, then commence the worship of Buddhas and Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Step 3: After completing offerings at the main hall, proceed to light incense at other altars in the temple courtyard. Note that when lighting incense, perform three or five sets of offerings. If the temple has altars for the Mother Goddess and the Four Palaces, go there to make offerings, light incense, recite prayers, and pray as desired.
Step 4: Ritual at the ancestral hall, also known as the temple of the ancestors.
Step 5: At the end of the ceremony, after offering gratitude and concluding the ritual, proceed to the reception room to pay respects to the resident monks and abbots of the temple.

Purposing to save and guide all venerable parents, siblings, relatives, and all beings onto the path of Buddhahood.
With heartfelt wishes, bowing reverently, seeking enlightenment.

Together with our beloved family, we stand at the temple gate before the altar of Ancestor Deities, offering sincere reverence. (If there are offerings, we offer them, saying 'dedicating offerings, pure wealth, and prosperity'), we implore Venerable Tu-datt, from the celestial realms, to bestow his gaze upon us.
We beseech Elderly Master Già Lam Chân Tể, overseeing us within the temple's sanctum alongside the Holy Assembly.
We acknowledge our worldly origins, our multitude of mistakes. Today, with sincere hearts, we humbly beseech Ancestor Deities for filial piety and compassion, praying for protection over the next three hot months and nine cold months, warding off illness and calamity, welcoming luck and fortune, granting all wishes, fulfilling all desires.
We offer our sincere devotion, humbly seeking your benevolent protection.

Namo Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Great Compassion, Great Loving-kindness.
We pay homage to the Wise One, the supreme teacher of clarity and evidence.

“Even if only hearing the name of Avalokiteshvara
Or even if only seeing a portrait,
With single-minded concentration, recite that sacred name,
Escape from all calamities, attain ultimate peace.”

With heartfelt sincerity, approach the Buddha's altar, the place of great compassion, offering precious items, fragrant flowers, and pure gold, with five bodies kneeling, single-mindedly revering under the pink lotus canopy.
We humbly implore the Great Compassionate Bodhisattva not to forsake our prayers, to shelter and save us like a caring mother. Through the power of compassionate water, our earthly desires seek pure grace, elevating virtuous aspirations. Illuminated by the light of wisdom, may our worldly burdens lessen, our spiritual paths blossom, granting our disciples and families four seasons of peace, eight festivals of prosperity, increasing fortune, flourishing households, eliminating potential calamities, advancing steadily on the path of righteousness. All requests are granted, all aspirations fulfilled.
Our faithful devotees offer heartfelt prayers, humbly seeking divine protection and support.

With heartfelt devotion, I come before the Buddha's altar, at the Nine Lotus Temple, offering precious gifts and fragrant flowers, seeking blessings and prosperity, with a single-minded reverence under the sacred lotus.
We beseech Earth Treasury Bodhisattva not to stray from his vow, to guide us under the Buddha's auspices, to protect and rescue us and our families, like a loving mother, granting us relief from sins, expanding wisdom, sheltering us under the clouds of compassion, blossoming our spiritual path, alleviating mental burdens. While alive, practicing virtuous deeds, following the example of the Great Sages, saving sentient beings.
When afflicted by illness and suffering, seeking solace in virtuous blessings, local deities provide tranquility. At the brink of death, guided by the luminous compassion, transcending the cycle of birth and death, ascending to the realm of goodness.
Once again, we pray for the ancestral spirits to attain liberation through the merits of these offerings.
With sincere intentions, we bow in reverence.
