Tender beef slices meticulously marinated, grilled over glowing charcoal, wafting a fragrant aroma that enchants patrons to Dã Chiến Eatery.
A dining establishment named after a hill that once housed a prison camp in Da Lat.
The owner, Mrs. Hiền (over 40 years old), recounted that her family's establishment has been open for over 5 years. The eatery is located on Quang Trung Street on the Dã Chiến hill. This landmark is situated along the route from the city center of Da Lat down to the tea hills of Cầu Đất, Trại Mát. Perhaps for this reason, the majority of visitors to the eatery are tourists.
“Dã Chiến Hill has been the site of a longstanding prison camp. Wanting to commemorate this place, I decided to name the eatery after the hill,” said Mrs. Hiền.
The owner also shared that since they don't have to rent a space, their daily earnings are higher. “Therefore, we keep our prices for customers close to the cost of ingredients,” Mrs. Hiền said.
This establishment serves a variety of grilled dishes and hotpot, all made from beef. The owner mentioned, 'We source our meat from trusted suppliers. The cattle are raised free-range rather than in industrial feedlots.'
The chefs only use meat from three parts of the cow. Guests can choose their portion size depending on the number of diners. The smallest serving costs 250,000 dong, suitable for 3-4 people.
To enhance the flavors and prevent greasiness, you'll be served a plate of fresh vegetables. Additional vegetables are complimentary upon request. The plate of meat also includes some pieces of corn kernels.
The highlight of the cuisine here is the expert marination of the meat. Tender beef slices are marinated meticulously before being grilled over charcoal, emitting an enticing aroma. Guests who order grilled dishes will be provided with a grill and utensils to grill the meat themselves. Avoid overcooking the meat, as it may become tough. The best way is to grill as you go.
A traveler from Hanoi remarked, 'This is my third visit to Da Lat and the first time enjoying the dishes at this eatery. The marinated meat perfectly suits my taste, grilling it makes it very tender.'
The hotpot broth is also favored by many guests for its sweetness and richness. Inside the pot, there are various types of mushrooms, to be enjoyed with fresh noodles or instant noodles.
The eatery also serves local chicken eggs for the hotpot. Depending on personal preference, guests can either crack them directly into the pot or boil them separately.
Thanks to its hillside location, the eatery boasts an open space at the back where diners can enjoy their meals while taking in the panoramic views of hills, mountains, and pine forests. Tables in this area often fill up quickly. Other sections are slightly dimmer and more secluded due to the smoke from the charcoal grill.
The eatery opens its doors to serve lunch to guests from around 10 a.m. Some days, by 11:30 a.m., a few items on the menu may have run out. With a large team of staff, service is efficient even during peak hours. The eatery provides parking for motorcycles at the rear and cars at the front.
