Arriving at Diep Son at this time evokes a sense of nostalgia tinged with disappointment. This place has long been renowned for its unique 'sea walking path' that attracted both domestic and international tourists. However, today, visitors to Diep Son can only enjoy activities such as swimming, kayaking... before departing. According to locals, that unique pathway has disappeared from Diep Son Island since Typhoon No. 12 last year...
A Visit to Diep Son Island – Khanh Hoa

I am someone who appreciates beauty and enjoys discovering new things. Despite having visited Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa several times, it wasn't until recently that I had the opportunity to visit Diep Son. I went out of curiosity for the 'sea walking path' rather than the novelty of the place.
From Nha Trang city, I purchased a tour to explore Diep Son Island (a day tour). After a 60km journey by car to Van Gia pier (Van Ninh district), we proceeded with a 20-minute canoe ride to Diep Son village. Nestled in Bac Van Phong Bay, Diep Son is renowned for its unique 'sea walking path' that emerges every time the tide recedes, revealing a long stretch of white sand path about 800m long.
Our group (comprising young friends from Hanoi and Saigon) arrived at Diep Son Island around noon, under the beautiful sun. At first sight, Diep Son Island reveals its majestic beauty. The azure sea, the sound of waves crashing, make this place truly spectacular, attracting numerous tourists, particularly young adventurers eager to explore. The allure of island beach tourism, with its beautiful beaches and islands, has been actively promoted, contributing to the development of Vietnam's tourism industry.
Diep Son Island exudes elegance and charm with its long pristine white sandy beach and crystal-clear waters that captivate visitors. The island remains quite untouched, offering limited tourist services apart from kayaking and photo sessions with majestic eagles (raised by a group of young locals for tourist photography). Nonetheless, the primary aim of most tourists visiting Diep Son is to experience and witness the unique 'sea walking path,' so even though the services are 'somewhat lacking,' it doesn't diminish the excitement of visitors.

When we arrived at Diep Son, the tide was gradually receding. We were eager because typically, the 'sea walking path' starts to emerge. However, after waiting for nearly 2 hours on the island, even as the tide rose, the path was nowhere to be seen. Upon inquiring with our guide, Tran Tho, we received a vague response, 'It's difficult to predict when the tide recedes, making it challenging to spot the natural pathway.' Thus, our Diep Son tour turned out to be a simple lunch on the island, kayaking... before returning to the Dốc Lết tourist area for beach bathing.
There's a sense of regret mixed with a bit of disappointment upon arriving at Diep Son at this time because for so long, this place has been known and attracted domestic and international tourists because of its unique 'sea walking path.' Carrying that sense of regret, I sought out the locals and learned that the unique path had disappeared from Diep Son Island since Typhoon No. 12 last year... The storm swept through, devastating everything and 'carried away that unique path,' as a resident of Diep Son Island explained.
Diep Son is the name of the village on Diep Son Island, Van Thanh commune, Van Ninh district (Khanh Hoa), nestled in the waters of Van Phong Bay, Khanh Hoa province. This village is home to about 80 households with nearly 1000 inhabitants, mainly making a living through fishing. The islanders face many difficulties in their daily lives due to the lack of electricity and clean water. However, like fishermen in other parts of Vietnam, they are very friendly, approachable, and harmonious.
