A man purchases land, establishes Slowjamastan nation in the USA
According to CNN, Mr. Williams, a radio broadcaster in San Diego, has a fervent desire to set foot in every country worldwide. After visiting most UN-recognized nations, Mr. Williams came up with the idea of founding his own country.
To realize his idea, Mr. Williams has purchased a vast piece of land nearly 45,000 square meters in the California desert. This nation is named 'The Unified Territory of the Sovereign Republic of Slowjamastan', located off Highway 78 in California, over a 2-hour drive from San Diego. Along the highway, a sign reading 'Welcome to Slowjamastan' can be seen from afar.
On December 1st, 2021, Slowjamastan officially declared independence from the USA. Just 2 years after its establishment, this nation has all the necessary elements of a young country. Slowjamastan has issued its own passports, raised its own flag, introduced its own currency (the duble), and composed a national anthem. As of June 2023, the population of this country is over 500 people, along with over 4,500 citizenship applications.
Slowjamastan has some very unique laws set by Mr. Williams himself. Here, citizens are forbidden to wear Crocs and to sing rap music. Violators will be deported. The most important goal of Slowjamastan currently is to seek diplomatic recognition. According to Mr. Williams, Slowjamastan passports have been stamped in 16 countries, including the USA, New Zealand, and South Africa. 'Technically, Slowjamastan fully meets the criteria of a sovereign nation under the Montevideo Convention,' Mr. Williams said.
In addition to diplomatic missions, Mr. Williams has also begun welcoming tourists to Slowjamastan to earn additional revenue. In the future, Mr. Williams wants to build a lazy river, a llama farm, a barbecue restaurant, and a statue.
