While the event may see the introduction of some new Apple accessories, below are the products you shouldn't anticipate being revealed in the coming hours.
MacBook Pro 13-inch M3
Apple is developing new Macs equipped with the next-generation M3 chip, built on TSMC's 3nm chip manufacturing process, bringing significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency compared to the M2 chip.
Redesigned MacBook Pro 13-inchAccording to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is set to release the M3 version of the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models, but the new MacBook Pro 13-inch with the M3 chip may not appear at the upcoming Scary Fast event.
Gurman stated, 'While Apple is exploring a budget-friendly MacBook Pro codenamed J504 with the M3 chip, it may not make an appearance in the upcoming event.'
MacBook Air 13-inch and 15-inch M3
Apple has yet to upgrade the smaller 13-inch MacBook Air this year. The current model still uses the M2 chip and was launched in June 2022, so many are anticipating its successor to be revealed at the upcoming Scary Fast event. In June 2023, Gurman announced that the MacBook Air 13-inch could be one of the first devices equipped with the new and more powerful M3 chip.
MacBook AirHowever, Gurman recently mentioned that the MacBook Air 13-inch with the M3 chip has only reached the engineering validation test (EVT) phase, the previous production testing stage on prototype devices. Gurman stated that this delays the release schedule for the next-generation MacBook Air 13-inch, likely to be unveiled between late spring and early summer next year.
Meanwhile, Apple introduced the 15-inch MacBook Air in June this year, so it's not expected to receive an upgrade anytime soon.
Mac Pro, Mac Studio, Mac Mini
Apple upgraded its premium Mac Pro and Mac Studio models earlier in June this year, making it unlikely for them to have successors at the event scheduled for tomorrow. Gurman agrees, stating that Apple will not refresh MacBook Air, Mac Studio, or Mac Pro models in the second half of this year.
As for the Mac Mini, Apple equipped it with the M2 chip in January 2023, while models running on M3 are not expected to appear until late 2024, according to Gurman.
New iPad
Apple occasionally releases new iPads towards the end of the year, but there are increasing doubts about it happening in 2023.
Apple is unlikely to unveil a new iPad at the event scheduled for tomorrow. Many speculate that Apple is working on new M3 models with OLED displays and redesigned Magic Keyboards, but these devices are not expected to launch until spring or early summer 2024.
Similar considerations apply to the , last upgraded in September 2021. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned in January that its successor could enter mass production in Q1 2024.
iPad AirAccording to Gurman, Apple is also developing an upgraded version of the iPad Air, but he no longer believes it will be unveiled this year. The last update to the iPad Air was in March 2022.
Apple is also working on the 11th generation of the budget iPad. The 10th gen was released in October 2022, and while Apple traditionally updates this product line annually, there is currently no evidence that the iPad Gen 11 will appear at the Scary Fast Apple event.
iPhone SE 4
Recent times have seen conflicting information about the release timing of the iPhone SE 4, but most indications suggest that the phone will not make an appearance this year.
The latest rumors indicate that the iPhone SE will resemble the iPhone 14, featuring an all-screen design with Face ID instead of Touch ID, USB-C port, a single rear camera, and an 'Action' button to replace the mute switch. It may also boast an OLED display. However, the expected earliest release for the iPhone SE 4 is in 2025.
New AirPods
According to Gurman, Apple is planning a major overhaul for its AirPods lineup, but this is not expected to commence until next year. Standard AirPods and AirPods Max will be refreshed in 2024, while AirPods Pro will receive an upgrade in 2025. For AirPods and AirPods Pro, Apple will update the headphone and case designs, while enhancing sound quality.
New AirPods are unlikely to appear at the Scary Fast event.HomePod Line
Lastly, the HomePod. Apple's HomePod mini is now three years old. Gurman was the first to reveal Apple's work on the second-generation HomePod mini in August 2022. In February 2023, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned that Apple would begin mass production of the second-generation HomePod mini in the second half of 2024.
Apple will not introduce new HomePods in the upcoming event. Therefore, it's highly likely that we won't see any new HomePod models introduced in Apple's upcoming event.
