Endless white and blue – that imagery still lingers in my dreams after the journey to Santorini (Greece).
A Sunday of 25 hours on the paradise island of Santorini

Getting to Santorini: From Athens (Greece), flights to the island take about 45 minutes. Flight schedules and ticket prices depend on the season and timing of booking. If you plan ahead, you might pay as little as 25 euros. We had to buy last-minute tickets due to bad weather canceling ferries, which cost us 58 euros. A more common mode of transportation is by ferry from the port of Piraeus with a journey time of about 7 hours. The ferry fare ranges from 37 to 42 euros one way, but departure times depend on the weather.
Getting around Santorini: You can rent a car or a self-drive scooter for about 10 euros per person per day, requiring a driver's license. Alternatively, you can take the bus. Hotels and bus stops all have timetables for tourists to plan their journeys. Bus tickets on the island are sold per trip, costing around 1.5-2 euros one way. Passengers may have to endure long queues to catch the bus from Oia to Fira after sunset, as nearly all tourists on the island wait for that bus. The bus attendants are both handsome and proficient in English.
Accommodation and Dining: Hotel prices in Santorini vary depending on the time of year. We rented a double room in October for 30 euros per night, including airport pickup, but prices soar up to 130 euros in August, requiring booking six months in advance. Food in Santorini features a lot of seafood, prepared to suit Vietnamese tastes more than many other European cities, and the farther from Fira village, the cheaper (8-12 euros per meal). Another specialty on the island is Gyros: resembling a sandwich from the outside, rolled into a funnel shape, filled with either lamb or pork and fries, tomatoes. Price ranges from 2.5 to 3 euros each.
Souvenirs: Don't hesitate to indulge in any souvenir in Santorini that catches your eye. Not only because it may be a while before you return, but also because every souvenir here is exquisitely crafted, harmonious, and the sellers are pleasant, even if they can't be considered cheap.
