Christoph Rehage (27 years old, German) initiated a remarkable walking expedition around China (from Beijing to Ürümqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China) on November 9, 2007, concluding the adventure in October 2008, covering a total distance of over 4500 km (2796 miles).
His only companion on this journey was a small cart carrying essentials. The intriguing part is that when he began, Christoph sported a clean-shaven look, but by the end of the trip, his appearance underwent a complete transformation with a full beard and a significantly slimmer physique, leaving many shocked at the stark contrast.

Reflecting on his experiences during the expedition, Christoph shared, “What I did was fairly ordinary, occasionally worrying about issues like passports, danger, and health throughout the journey, or sometimes being concerned about loved ones back home... However, most moments during the trip brought a sense of peace, even though there were moments of monotony.”
When asked about the reason for concluding his journey, Christoph explained, “I wanted to return to my life and better control myself. The biggest challenge in participating in such an adventure is the struggle with oneself. Many look at my journey and think 'I wish I were as free as that guy,' but they fail to realize that I was controlled by something, and perhaps I couldn't control myself.”
Nevertheless, he believes: “It's not the aching feet or the long lonely roads, nor is it the dusty storms or freezing cold winter nights; the greatest challenge lies within oneself!”.
