In many cases of network loss, the webpages you're browsing may unexpectedly become inaccessible. However, once the connection is restored, you often have to go through the hassle of pressing F5 or activating the page reload feature on Opera, which can be time-consuming. For many web users, whether they're using browsers like Chrome, Firefox, or Opera, having the auto-reload feature after network loss is essential. It not only helps restore closed tabs but also automatically refreshes pages that couldn't be accessed due to sudden network loss.
Turn on the automatic page reload feature after network loss on Opera
Step 1: In the address bar of Opera, enter the following command: opera://flags. Press
Step 2: Enter the keyword “reload” to search for the Offline auto-reload mode experimental feature.
This experimental feature allows the Opera browser to automatically reload pages after losing internet connection. When the connection is restored, Opera will automatically reload the pages as they were originally. The auto-reload feature on Opera can be applied to versions on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Step 3: Press Default > select Enabled to activate the automatic page reload feature in Opera after going offline.
If you only want to reload the currently displayed page in Opera, switch Default to Enabled under Only auto-reload visible tabs.
Step 4: By default, the Opera browser needs to restart for any changes to take effect. Click the Relaunch Now button in the notification above.
It's quite interesting that users don't need to set Opera as the default browser to perform this trick. Additionally, this feature has been available in many previous versions of Opera, not just the recently released Opera 40. In the current Opera 40 version, users can also find useful features like pop-up blocking and battery saving.
In Firefox and Chrome, this feature is also integrated to automatically reload web pages after reconnecting to the network. Afterwards, you won't need to intervene with any actions, including pressing F5 or clicking the reload button. Almost all major web browsers today are striving to please users with exciting new features. However, it's unfortunate that even Firefox and Chrome haven't made this feature official, keeping it in the experimental feature section. Hopefully, in the future, these browsers will integrate an option to automatically reload pages after network loss.
