AutoCAD is a specialized 2D/3D design software designed for design purposes and can be challenging to use when experiencing lag and freezing. With the following tips, you can address lag and freezing issues in AutoCAD and use the software more effectively.
1. Changing Selection Border Effects
Selection borders can slow down AutoCAD as it processes the effect. To improve performance, change the selection effect to a dashed line to make the software run faster.
Step 1: Click on the A icon (1) => Options (2).
Step 2: Press Selection (1) => Visual Effect Settings… (2).
Next, choose Dash (3) => OK (4).
Step 3: Press OK again to finish.
2. Activate hardware acceleration feature
Hardware acceleration feature will optimize software performance on your computer. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Enter 3DCONFIG command in Command and press Enter.
Step 2: Click on Manual Tune.
Step 4: Check the box for Enable hardware acceleration (1) => OK (2).
3. Boost AutoCAD on Windows 10
Modern versions of AutoCAD efficiently utilize hardware, especially newer graphics cards. With the graphics acceleration feature for gaming on Windows 10, you can leverage this feature to enhance graphics processing speed for AutoCAD.
Step 1: Right-click on Start (1) => Settings (2).
Step 2: Click on Gaming.
Step 3: Click on Game mode (1) => Graphics settings (2).
Step 4: Select Desktop app (1) => Browse (2).
Next, open and navigate to the acad (3) file => Add (4).
Step 5: Click on Options.
Next, choose High Performance => Save.
4. Reduce CAD file size.
