Method 1: Adjusting Screen Brightness Using Shortcut Keys
On a MacBook, look at the top-left corner of the keyboard, where the F1 and F2 keys function to increase or decrease screen brightness.
If these keys are set with normal F functions, when adjusting screen brightness, press the Fn key simultaneously with the F key (on a Macbook, it will be the F1, F2 keys; on a Mac, it will be the F14, F15 keys) to increase or decrease screen brightness.
Method 2: Adjusting Screen Brightness in System Preferences
To adjust using this method, click on the Apple Menu -> select System Preferences. Then, click on the Display icon in the System Preferences window. Adjust the brightness through the Brightness customization.
Method 3: Automatically Adjusting Screen Brightness Based on Ambient Light
With this method, users can rely on the integrated light sensor on the MacBook to detect and monitor the ambient light. The MacBook will automatically adjust the screen brightness for the most suitable setting.
In this way, the MacBook will automatically adjust to increase brightness in well-lit environments and decrease brightness (dim) when the external environment is darker.
To set this up, go to the Apple Menu -> Select System Preferences as shown in the image below.
Next, choose Display. Then, check the box for Automatically adjust brightness to enable the MacBook to use the light sensor feature and automatically adjust brightness based on the surrounding environment.
If you no longer wish to use this feature, follow the same steps as above -> then uncheck the box for Automatically adjust brightness.
Keep in mind: When you choose to turn off automatic screen brightness, the MacBook screen brightness will still adjust automatically when you plug in or unplug the power cord. Therefore, please take note of this.
