Adjusting Your E Z Go Golf Cart Governor

Adjusting the governor can boost your golf cart's speed by 5–10 mph (8.0–16.1 km/h). If you perform this adjustment on an E-Z-GO golf cart, you could potentially increase its speed from 15 mph (24 km/h) to 22 mph (35 km/h). This process can be completed in just about 5 minutes.

Be aware that increasing the cart's top speed will accelerate engine wear. Modified governors may require more frequent repairs and part replacements. Also, carts exceeding 19mph are considered motor vehicles, requiring seatbelts and inspections. Although not a significant issue, it's essential to know the regulations.

Loosen the nut securing the cable to the metal protrusion to boost speed. You'll notice the cable lengthening slightly, increasing your cart's speed. Conversely, tightening the nut slows down the cart.

Understand that adjusting the governor may not be possible if the cable or governor spring is not visible. This is common in modern all-electric engines. Manufacturers like EZ Go often conceal governors in the spark plug ignition to prevent consumer tampering, making adjustments challenging and risky for untrained individuals.
