A. ADMISSION INFORMATION - HANOI UNIVERSITY OF ARCHITECTURE 2020
1. Admission Criteria
- Graduated from high school (in regular or continuing education) or completed secondary education, collectively referred to as high school graduates;
Graduates from vocational schools without a high school diploma must study and be recognized as having completed high school cultural subjects as required.
- Have sufficient health to study according to current regulations. For people with disabilities recognized by the provincial People's Committee as deformed, defective, or impaired in self-reliance in daily life and learning due to the aftermath of exposure to toxic chemicals during wartime: The Principal of the School considers and decides on admission to suitable majors based on health conditions.
- Soldiers about to complete their military service according to regulations, if permitted by the Chief of Staff from the regiment level or higher, are allowed to apply for admission according to personal preferences; if admitted, they must enroll immediately in 2020 without deferring to the next academic year.
- Candidates applying for admission to specialized majors with exam/group V00 (Architecture, Regional and Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Advanced Program in Architecture) or specialized majors with exam/group H00 (Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fashion Design, Sculpture) must participate in the aptitude test in 2020 organized by Hanoi University of Architecture.
2. Scope of admission
- Admission nationwide.
3. Admission methods
3.1. In 2020, Hanoi University of Architecture applies the following methods for undergraduate admission:
a) Admission based on the 2020 High School Graduation Exam results for technical, economic, information technology... majors with the exam/ admission combination codes A00, A01, B00, D01
b) Admission based on high school academic performance for majors in Group 5 (admission code KTA05) and majors in Urban Underground Construction, Construction Material Engineering Technology.
In cases where the admission based on high school academic performance does not meet the quota for this admission method, the remaining quota will be transferred to admission based on the results of the High School Graduation Exam;
c) Combined examination with admission consideration for majors in groups with aptitude exams (with admission codes from KTA01 to KTA04).
- For the V00 combination: Combine the aptitude test in Fine Arts with the Mathematics and Physics exams of the candidates in the High School Graduation Exam.
- For the H00 combination: Combine the aptitude test with subjects in Fine Arts and Decorative Layout with the Literature subject of the candidates in the High School Graduation Exam;
3.2. Candidates admitted to majors in Architecture, Civil and Industrial Construction, if willing and meeting the admission criteria, including foreign language proficiency as prescribed by the University, will participate in admission to K+ classes (Architecture) or X+ classes (Civil and Industrial Construction).
4. Admission Quota:
- The quota is determined by field/group of majors and by each admission method and training level.
- Candidates register their preferences by group of majors. Each group of majors consists of one or more majors and is identified by a group code. For a group of majors, the admission combinations are considered equally when determining the admission threshold. Therefore, candidates only register for one admission combination with the highest exam result.
- Immediately after candidates confirm their enrollment, the Admission Board will organize branch allocation for candidates admitted to the group of majors with 2 majors based on: the candidate's admission combination score; the candidate's major preference; and the training quota for the major as specified by the University's Admission Board.

5. Quality assurance threshold, conditions for submitting application documents
a) For admission combinations based on the results of the high school graduation exam: The university will announce the quality assurance threshold on the university's website at http://www.hau.edu.vn/ and on the admission information page at http://tuyensinh.hau.edu.vn before candidates adjust their preferences.
If using preserved exam results from the national high school graduation exams in 2018, 2019, for admission in 2020, candidates must have admission scores in 2020 greater than or equal to the admission threshold for the combination and major they are applying to in the corresponding year. This condition does not apply to candidates applying for majors in the talent admission combinations V00, H00.
b) For admission combinations in the admission method based on high school academic performance, to be eligible for application submission, candidates must meet all the following conditions:
- The average total score of 3 subjects in the admission combination (AvgSubj1 + AvgSubj2 + AvgSubj3) must be greater than or equal to 18.0 points;
- For each subject in the admission combination, the scores from semester 1 of grade 11 (ScoreSem1), semester 2 of grade 11 (ScoreSem2), and semester 1 of grade 12 (ScoreSem3) must be greater than or equal to 5.0 points.
c) For admission combinations with talent exams
* Cultural exams: According to the regulations in points a and b of Section 5.
* Talent exams:
-Combination V00 (groups 1 and 2): Fine Arts exam consists of two tests, Fine Arts Drawing 1 (MT1) and Fine Arts Drawing 2 (MT2), scored on a 5-point scale.
+The score for Fine Arts Drawing is calculated as follows:
Score Fine Arts Drawing = Score Fine Arts Drawing 1 + Score Fine Arts Drawing 2.
+ The score for Fine Arts Drawing after multiplying by a factor of 2.0 must reach the minimum for admission as follows:
8.00 for candidates in area 1 (KV1);
9.00 for candidates in area 2, area 2 – rural (KV2, KV2-NT);
10.00 for candidates in area 3 (KV3).
- Combination H00 (groups 3 and 4): The two aptitude tests are Graphic Arts (H1) and Decorative Composition with Color (H2), scored on a 10-point scale. The total score of these two subjects without multiplying by any factor must meet the minimum for admission as follows:
8.00 for candidates in KV1;
9.00 for candidates in KV2, KV2-NT;
10.00 for candidates in KV3.
6. Other necessary information for applicants to enroll in the University's departments:
* University Code: KTA;
* Department Code, Admission Combination Code as shown in the table of Section 4.
- For departments/groups with more than one admission combination, the combinations are considered equally when determining the admission score. Therefore, applicants should only register for one combination with the highest test score.
- The university considers the results of exempted English tests for admission; admission is also based on the retained scores from the national high school graduation exams in 2018, 2019; no retention of scores for talent exams.
- Immediately after the applicant confirms enrollment, the University Admissions Council (HĐTS Trường) will organize the departmental allocation for admitted students based on criteria such as the applicant's admission score, preferred department within the admitted group, and the admission quota for the department or as decided by the Chairman of the University Admissions Council.
* Additional conditions used in admissions:
For applicants with equal admission scores at the bottom of the list, priority is given to those with higher talent scores for V00, H00 combinations; higher Mathematics scores for other combinations; if the quota is still available, priority is given to applicants with higher preferences; other cases are subject to the decision of the University Admissions Council.
7. Admission Organization:
a) Admission Period:
- Admission period for round 1:
+ The admission process takes place according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training;
+ Deadline for submitting portfolios for artistic exams and application documents for academic performance-based admissions: From June 1, 2020, to July 31, 2020.
+ Time for organizing the Exam for artistic subjects: From August 14 to August 17, 2020.
- Additional admission period (if any): According to the announcement from the University after the results of the first round of admissions.
b) Method of receiving application documents/entrance exams
- Candidates must register for the high school graduation exam and university admissions and submit documents according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Candidates submit art exam documents by mail or directly at the University.
- Candidates submit academic performance-based admissions documents by mail, directly at the University, or online.
c) Procedures and documents for exam registration, admissions registration
* Procedures and documents for academic performance-based admissions and art exam admissions for fields without aptitude tests
1) Candidates applying for art exam admissions in fields under Group 5 (admissions code KTA05) must declare and submit a Priority Admission Form for the field within the group (Appendix 2) issued by Hanoi University of Architecture.
2) For candidates applying based on high school academic performance for fields/categories as stipulated, submit to the University the Academic Performance-based Admission Form (Appendix 7) or fill in the required information on the University's online admission software. If candidates use preserved exam results from the national high school graduation exams in 2018, 2019, they need to declare and submit the Admission Form in Appendix 8 to the University.
* Procedures and documents for academic performance-based admissions and art exam admissions for fields with aptitude tests
1) Candidates applying for art exams in fields with aptitude tests (admissions codes V00, H00) must declare and submit the admission documents along with the admission fee for the University.
2) Admission documents for art exam fields include:
- Two Admission Forms (Form 1 and Form 2 in Appendix 1) filled with complete information and confirmed by the authorized competent authority. If candidates use preserved exam results from the national high school graduation exams in 2018, 2019, they need to declare and submit the Admission Form in Appendix 8 to the University;
- 03 (three) photos in the format of ID photos (01 photo size 4x6cm, 02 photos size 3x4cm) with the name, date of birth, and birthplace (district, province/city) of the candidate written on the back. All 03 photos are affixed to Form 1;
- One envelope with a clearly stated address in the recipient's section for the University to send the Examination Admission Paper. The contact address of the candidate should include: Full name of the recipient, hamlet/village/house number/alley...; commune/ward, district/urban district, province/city; contact phone number.
Candidates submitting admission documents by mail need to include an additional envelope with a clearly stated address in the recipient's section as mentioned above for the University to return Form 2 after confirming the completion of the admission document submission procedure;
- Photocopy of the fee payment receipt if the candidate submits the application by mail;
If a candidate simultaneously applies for admission to fields with the V00 combination and fields with the H00 combination, they must submit two complete sets of documents as described above.
* Procedures for submitting admission documents and the admission fee for artistic majors:
Candidates can choose from the following methods to submit admission documents and admission fees as follows:
1) Directly submit admission documents and admission fees at the Training Department - Hanoi University of Architecture at the address:
One-stop department, Hanoi University of Architecture (1st floor, U-A connecting building).

2) Submit admission documents by post and pay the admission fee through the bank, as follows:
- Pay the fee into the university's account with the account number:
4501.000.1111118 at the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam - BIDV (Ha Tay branch).
Clearly state: Pay the entrance exam fee for the applicant's talent subject:... (clearly write the name and ID number of the applicant);
- Send a photocopy of the bank's fee payment receipt along with the admission documents for the talent exam to the address:
Office of Academic Affairs, Hanoi University of Architecture.

- To complete the submission procedure, applicants sending their admission documents via postal services are considered finished only when they receive confirmation on Form 2 from the Office of Academic Affairs - Hanoi University of Architecture.
* Admission/Exam Fees
a) Application fee: Follow the regulations of the Ministry of Education and current laws.
b) Admission fee and exam fees for talent subjects:
* Applicants for V00 combination majors:
- Submitting admission documents directly to Hanoi University of Architecture: 360,000 VND/applicant;
- Sending admission documents via postal services: 375,000 VND/applicant (including 15,000 VND express delivery fee for Form 2 to the applicant).
* Applicants for H00 combination majors:
- Submitting admission documents directly to Hanoi University of Architecture: 400,000 VND/applicant;
- Sending admission documents via postal services: 415,000 VND/applicant (including 15,000 VND express delivery fee for Form 2 to the applicant).
8. Priority Policies: Direct admission; preferential admission
8.1. Direct Admission Categories
a) Labor Heroes, Armed Forces Heroes, National Emulation Fighters who have graduated from high school;
b) Individuals previously admitted to the University, but in that year received orders for military service or participated in youth volunteer activities, and have now completed their service, reinstated, discharged but not enrolled in any regular long-term school. Those recommended by the military division or the Youth Volunteer Corps, if meeting health and document requirements, will be considered for admission. If interrupted education for 3 years or more and direct admission candidates express the desire, they will undergo an additional year of knowledge supplementation before formal enrollment.
c) Candidates participating in the national team selection for the International Olympic competition, within the national team for the International Science and Technology competition, who have graduated from high school, will be directly admitted to the university in a field related to the exam subject or the topic of the candidate's competition. Candidates in the national team for the International Olympic competition, International Science and Technology competition, who have not graduated from high school, will have their results reserved until the end of the high school graduation year.
d) Artistic talents who have graduated from high school or completed intermediate level studies at art schools, won official prizes in international art competitions recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will be directly admitted to study in the relevant fields as determined by the University Admissions Council.
Artistic talents winning awards, the period considered for priority is not more than 4 years counting from the exam date or admission to the university.
e) Winners of First, Second, Third prizes in the national excellent student selection exam; winners of First, Second, Third prizes in the National Science and Technology competition, who have graduated from high school, will be directly admitted to the university in a field related to the exam subject or the topic of the competition that the candidate has won. Winners of prizes in the national excellent student selection exam, winners of prizes in the National Science and Technology competition, who have not graduated from high school, will have their results reserved until the end of the high school graduation year.
f) Winners of First, Second, Third prizes in provincial and city-level competitions, winners of Encouragement prizes in national competitions in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Informatics, Biology, Foreign Languages. Candidates in these categories must graduate in 2020 and have a good academic record for 3 years of high school, classified as Good or above.
g) Candidates with a good academic record for all 3 years of high school, classified as Excellent or above, and graduated from high school in 2020.
h) Candidates with a TOEFL iBT certificate scoring 70 or above, IELTS scoring 5.5 or above, TOEIC scoring 550 or above are directly admitted to the Advanced Program in Architecture. These candidates need to participate in the 2019 talent exam organized by Hanoi Architectural University and must achieve the minimum scores in the talent subjects as specified by the University.
i) For candidates with severe disabilities and special confirmation from the authorized agency according to regulations: The Principal, based on the high school academic results (academic record), health status, and the requirements of the training program, will consider and decide on admission to a suitable major.
j) For international candidates wishing to study at the University: The Principal will base on the high school academic results (transcript), results of the Vietnamese language knowledge and proficiency test according to the university's regulations to consider and decide on admission.
k) Candidates with permanent residency for 3 years or more, studying for 3 years and graduating from high school in poor districts (students of ethnic minorities boarding according to permanent residency), calculated until the date of submitting the application according to the provisions of Resolution No. 30a/2008/NQ-CP dated December 27, 2008, of the Government on the Program for quick and sustainable poverty reduction support for 61 poor districts and Decision No. 293/QD-TTg dated February 05, 2013, of the Prime Minister on the implementation of the central budget investment mechanism for 23 districts with high poverty rates, applying the mechanism and policies of infrastructure investment according to the provisions of Resolution No. 30a/2008/NQ-CP on the Program for quick and sustainable poverty reduction support for 61 poor districts; candidates from ethnic minorities in very few numbers according to current regulations of the Government and candidates from 20 poor border, island districts in the Southwest region;
N) These candidates must undergo an additional year of preparatory studies before officially starting their academic program. The supplementary curriculum is determined by the Principal.
o) Candidates applying for direct admission to majors with talent subjects (including nominated candidates) must participate in the 2020 talent exam organized by Hanoi Architectural University and must achieve the minimum scores in the talent subjects as specified by the University.
Maximum 10% of the enrollment quota for each major is reserved for direct admission
8.2. Priority Admission Criteria
a) Candidates eligible for direct admission, if not utilizing the direct admission privilege, will be prioritized with additional points added to the total scores of the 3 subjects in the admission combination of the department, decided by the Chairman of the Admission Steering Committee. The priority points are specified as follows:
- Candidates falling under the categories specified in a, b, c, g, h, i, j, k will receive an additional 3.0 points;
- Other candidates will receive additional points according to the following criteria:
+ For national-level competitions: First Prize receives an additional 3.0 points; Second Prize receives an additional 2.5 points; Third Prize receives an additional 2.0 points;
+ For provincial-level competitions: First Prize receives an additional 2.5 points; Second Prize receives an additional 2.0 points; Third Prize receives an additional 1.5 points.
b) Candidates falling under the following categories will be given priority with additional points added to the total scores of the 3 subjects in the admission combination of the department, as decided by the Chairman of the Admission Steering Committee:
- Candidates achieving Encouragement Prize in the national excellent student selection exam; candidates achieving Fourth Prize in the national-level science and technology competition, having graduated from high school, will receive an additional 1.5 points;
- Artistic talent candidates, having graduated from high school or completed intermediate level at art schools, winning official prizes in national professional art competitions in fine arts, having participated in the high school graduation exam, with no exam/subject (in the admission subject group) scoring 1.0 point or lower. Additional points are as follows: First Prize receives an additional 2.0 points; Second Prize receives an additional 1.5 points; Third Prize receives an additional 1.0 point;
- Individuals winning one of the first, second, or third prizes in the ASEAN regional and international skills competitions, holding a high school diploma or intermediate degree, having studied and met the required volume of high school cultural knowledge as stipulated by the Education Law and implementing documents. Additional points are as follows: First Prize receives an additional 2.0 points; Second Prize receives an additional 1.5 points; Third Prize receives an additional 1.0 point.
- Other cases will have the point addition determined by the Chairman of the Admission Steering Committee, but the addition will not exceed 2.0 points.
c) Priority admission criteria with a maximum of 5% of the admission quota for each major.
9. Estimated tuition fees for regular students
Estimated tuition fees for regular students in 2020:
- 5.0-year training program: 354,500 VND/credit;
- 4.5-year training program: 339,700 VND/credit
10. Estimated schedule for additional admission rounds in the year:
Time for additional admission rounds (if any) will be implemented according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training and will be publicly announced as required.
- Estimated cut-off scores:
In 2019, the highest cut-off score for the Architecture University belonged to the Graphic Design major with 20.5 points, and the lowest was 14 points for various majors such as Drainage Engineering, Urban Infrastructure Engineering, etc. With the total enrollment quota equal to 2019, the estimated cut-off score for 2022 is expected to remain unchanged or change minimally compared to the previous year.
B. ADMISSION CONDITIONS
Admission conditions for candidates applying for university admission in 2020 to Hanoi University of Architecture using the method without using high school graduation exam results and organizing admission for candidates affected by the Covid-19 pandemic are as follows:
1. Admission conditions for candidates applying for university admission in 2020 to Hanoi University of Architecture using the method without using high school graduation exam results
a) Candidates applying for admission based on high school academic performance must meet the following conditions to be admitted:
- For candidates who graduated from high school from 2019 and earlier:
+ The average total score of 3 subjects in the admission combination (Averagesubject 1 + Averagesubject 2 + Averagesubject 3) for the first 5 semesters of high school must be greater than or equal to 18.0 points;
+ For each subject in the admission combination, the scores in the 1st semester of grade 11 (Ssem3), 2nd semester of grade 11 (Ssem4), and 1st semester of grade 12 (Ssem5) must be greater than or equal to 5.0 points.
- For candidates who have not graduated from high school in 2020:
+ Graduated from high school in 2020;
+ The average total score of 3 subjects in the admission combination (Averagesubject 1 + Averagesubject 2 + Averagesubject 3) for the first 5 semesters of high school must be greater than or equal to 18.0 points;
+ For each subject in the admission combination, the scores in the 1st semester of grade 11 (Ssem3), 2nd semester of grade 11 (Ssem4), and 1st semester of grade 12 (Ssem5) must be greater than or equal to 5.0 points.
b) Candidates applying for direct admission must meet the following conditions to be admitted:
- For candidates applying for direct admission to majors in admission combinations V00, H00 (talented majors):
+ Graduated from high school in 2020;
+ Have a talent test score greater than or equal to 8.00 for candidates in Area 1; 9.00 for candidates in Area 2, Area 2-NT; 10.00 for candidates in Area 3.
- For candidates applying for direct admission to majors not in the admission combinations V00, H00, they must graduate from high school in 2020.
2. The university conducts admission for candidates affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as follows:
- For candidates applying to talent-based majors, unable to take the first round of the high school graduation exam and/or unable to take the talent test: If the candidate cannot take the first round of the high school graduation exam but still participates in the talent test (due to the expiration of quarantine), then admission is considered immediately after the candidate has the results of the second round of the high school graduation exam. The admission score is taken as for candidates graduating from the first round of the high school graduation exam. If the candidate cannot participate in the talent test, there is no admission consideration in 2020.
- For candidates applying to other majors who cannot take the first round of the high school graduation exam: Admission is considered immediately after the candidate has the results of the second round of the high school graduation exam. C. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SUBMISSION OF ADMISSION CONFIRMATION DOCUMENTS
Hanoi University of Architecture announces to candidates applying for regular university admission in 2020 under the direct admission and admission based on high school academic performance as follows:
To complete the procedures for admission recognition, candidates must submit the following documents to Hanoi University of Architecture:
- For direct admission candidates: Certified copy of the high school graduation exam results; Certified copy of awards in National Examinations, international Olympics, language certificates… (according to the direct admission category that the candidate has registered for);
- For candidates based on high school academic performance: Certified copy of the results of the national high school graduation exam or the certificate of high school graduation exam results, notarized copy of the high school academic record.

3. 2018 Admission Scores for Hanoi University of Architecture
For candidates checking the admission scores for Hanoi University of Architecture or other schools, pay attention to the major code, major name, and subject combination to accurately check the majors you are applying for. In 2016, the admission score for the architecture major was 25, 75 points. However, in 2017, there will likely be changes in admission scores for most majors and universities.
