After graduating from Newcastle University, Wiltshire, UK in July 2010, Charlie Walker embarked on a 4-year cycling journey across 3 continents on his trusty old bike 'Old Geoff'.
His journey took him to the North Pole, the southern tip of Africa, across Eastern Asia, and through dense forests in Vietnam.
Adventurous Guy's Journey Through 61 Countries on a Single Bicycle in 4 Years

Sharing with Rough Guides (UK), Charlie Walker revealed the reason behind his 'unthinkable' journey. At 22, single, and without any job or family commitments, it was the perfect time for him to hit the road.

For him, preparing for such an 'epic' journey was extremely challenging, if not non-existent. He simply embarked on a 'cheap and slow' trip on his old bike 'Old Geoff'. He didn't even prepare physically because, to him, the journey was an opportunity to broaden his horizons, meet interesting people, explore new cultures, and challenge himself both physically and mentally. Throughout the journey, Walker was chased by elephants, detained in China, and even had to flee a conflict zone in northern Mozambique. However, for him, it was an exhilarating experience.

During his journey, he also savored many inexpensive dishes. Most notably, he even ate cat food for three days and accidentally consumed... pig genitals in China! Moreover, along the way, he met a German guy in Vietnam named Micky. They shared thoughts and encounters, cycled to Beijing together, and even bought a rustic boat with a Scottish guy they met later. And he realized, life has many adventure enthusiasts, not just him.

On his journey, Charlie Walker also captured a portrait of a monk in Thailand and slept on the floor of a Buddhist temple in this country. And finally, after four years of wandering, the lad returned to his hometown Bowerchalke, Wiltshire, feeling very relaxed. Many embark on such adventures but return feeling no different. However, for Charlie Walker, he achieved it. He believes anyone can do it, just 'pack your bag and go.' However, this is an experience not everyone has. The point is, you don't need to be wealthy or privileged, just decide and go. You don't have to circumnavigate the globe to call it a journey, just step out of the house, and the journey will come to you.
