The 'brand-centric' design is now replaced by a customizable button named the 'Action Button'.
Apple's Wonderlust event unveiled a slew of new products, with the spotlight on the iPhone 15. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max introduce a subtle yet groundbreaking design change, breaking the 16-year tradition of iPhone design. The silent switch is replaced by a tactile button.

This button is known as the 'Action Button', defaulting to toggling between silent mode and ring when pressed and held. Activating the button comes with vibrations and animations on the Dynamic Island for user recognition. Beyond that, Apple allows users to customize the button's function, such as triggering the camera, enabling Do Not Disturb mode, recording, turning on the flashlight, searching, and more.

For more complex tasks, users can utilize the Shortcut app for customization. For instance, opening a specific app, activating Shazam to identify the playing song, calling a specific phone number, opening a music playlist, or accessing a book in the Books app...

The Apple Watch Ultra also features a similar Action Button, painted in a vibrant orange. The button on the iPhone, however, is equivalent in size to the previous silent switch and will match the device's frame color. This is an exclusive feature for the iPhone 15 Pro Series, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will continue to retain the traditional silent switch.
