Introduced by Google in 2016, seamless update feature on Android has been adopted by most phone manufacturers. After 8 years, Samsung has finally brought this feature to their devices, starting with the Galaxy A55.
Recently, Galaxy A55 in India received the March 2024 Android security patch with firmware A556EXXS1AXC1, along with the seamless update feature. Users will see two notifications when downloading an update - 'Downloading and installing' and 'Verifying.'
The seamless update feature allows updates to be installed on partition B while you can still use the phone on partition A and only need to restart the device when the installation process is complete.

This allows the device to remain usable throughout the installation process and only unavailable during the reboot (which can take up to 90 seconds on the Galaxy A55). Users no longer have to wait several minutes for the entire installation process to complete before using their phones.
It's currently unclear which Samsung smartphones will be updated with this feature next. However, older models may not support it as they require special configurations before being shipped.
