We have officially stepped into September, getting closer to the launch of the new iPhone, a highly anticipated product. In this article, I compile the leaked information about what to expect from the iPhone 13 camera.Portrait Video Mode
Portrait video mode offers the ability to capture videos with a blurred background, adjustable blur intensity according to preference. Portrait has become a familiar shooting mode for iPhone users, enabling portrait photography with a blurred background, thanks to the combination of the main camera, telephoto lens, and lidar sensor. There are many speculations suggesting that in the new iPhone generation, the camera will feature a video recording mode with Portrait Mode capabilities.Currently, there's little information regarding which lineup this feature will grace, but analyses strongly suggest its exclusive presence on the Pro and Pro Max models, rather than the iPhone 13 variants. Similar to the ProRaw feature introduced last year, it's anticipated to be reserved for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max only.Introducing ProRes video format
ProRes stands as a video standard boasting significantly higher quality, purportedly possessing numerous superior traits compared to the current H.264 format on iPhones.According to Bloomberg, it's highly likely that this video format will debut on the new iPhone lineup, offering enhanced video recording experiences. There's still limited information on which version of ProRes will be featured, but its inclusion on the new iPhone lineup is poised to be a standout enhancement for video quality on this phone series.First-ever super-wide camera with autofocus and f/1.8 aperture
Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the super wide lens will feature a larger aperture of f/1.8 and a 6-element lens, an upgrade from the f/2.4 5-element lens on the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. Additionally, the super wide camera cluster will also have autofocus capability.Supporting the aforementioned speculation, a report from digitimes.com reveals that Apple is increasing orders for VCMs (Voice Coil Motors - a type of motor for autofocus) by up to 40%, a motor that enhances their camera's autofocus capabilities.Enhanced sensor stabilization capability

Much larger camera cluster
Based on leaked design images and dummy units, it's evident that the camera cluster on the Pro and Pro Max is significantly larger than its predecessors. The increase in size not only applies to the camera cluster overall but also to each individual camera within it, which carries various implications:- Provides additional space for sensor stabilization features on each camera.
- There's a possibility of introducing larger image sensors, leading to improved image quality.
- Optical design alterations may occur, allowing for wider aperture settings to capture more light.
Protective cases are said to be manufactured for the iPhone 13 Pro and tested on the iPhone 12 Pro.Another noteworthy aspect is that there may not be a difference in size between the camera clusters on the Pro and Pro Max models, similar to the iPhone 12 lineup. This could contribute to more consistent image quality between the Pro and Pro Max.
Tech InsiderGadget Review
Another image from Majin Bu on Twitter also reveals a significantly larger camera cluster.Analyst Ross Young also suggests that the iPhone 13 Pro will feature larger sensors. Some other rumors, with less likelihood or appeal
New color filters
Some reports also mention that the new iPhone camera app will feature numerous new color filters, but personally, I find this information uninteresting as I rarely use this feature.Zoom capability
Information about zoom capabilities on the new iPhone's telephoto camera has been widely discussed, but in my view, there are two possibilities:- Upgrading zoom capabilities but still using the traditional lens system: There are too many limitations to create a large zoom system (3X, 5X) with a traditional optical design, and if Apple manages to upgrade the telephoto camera from 2.5X (current on the iPhone 12 Pro) to 3X or beyond, then for me, this upgrade doesn't hold much significance.
- Apple introduces a periscope-style telephoto camera: If Apple implements this camera structure in the upcoming iPhone generation, it would be fantastic, offering a lot to explore and experience. However, based on the information I've read, this is highly unlikely and nearly impossible at the current time. Periscope cameras are relatively new, with many limitations, so I'm not holding my breath for it.
Conclusion
In summary, there will be features highly likely to appear on the new generation iPhone's camera such as:- Portrait video mode.
- ProRes video format.
- First-ever super-wide camera with autofocus and f/1.8 aperture.
- Sensor stabilization capability.
- Larger camera cluster.
- New color filters.
- Enhanced zoom on traditional lens system.
- Periscope-style zoom.
