During its demonstration, Ernie Bot was quizzed on a Chinese sci-fi novel titled 'Three Bodies' and tasked with creating an image based on the prompts. Baidu CEO Robin Li mentioned that despite not being 100% complete, Ernie Bot was launched due to high user demand.
Robin Li also revealed that a total of 650 companies have signed up to use Ernie Bot, an AI chatbot tool with capabilities ranging from search, cloud AI technology, autonomous driving, to integration into smart devices. Ernie Bot is poised to be a direct competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT, boasting similar features such as answering questions and even composing essays.
In 2022, Baidu announced that the company allocated 23.3 billion yuan (3.4 billion USD) for research and development in artificial intelligence, including research on autonomous driving technology and other AI applications, equivalent to about 1/5 of its revenue.
