II. Model Essay: Analyzing the Practical Basis of Ho Chi Minh's Declaration of Independence (Standard)
The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born when Ho Chi Minh read the 'Declaration of Independence' on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square before millions of our compatriots. In the first part of the work, Ho Chi Minh presented the 'Declaration of Independence' of the United States and the 'Declaration of Human Rights and Civil Liberties' of France as legal bases, but in the second part, he outlined the practical basis of the declaration.
The basis originates from Ho Chi Minh accusing the crimes of the French colonialists. He listed the actions they took against our nation. Their actions always contradicted justice and humanity. The French colonialists exploited the 'flags of freedom, equality, and fraternity' to oppress our people, occupying our country's territory for over eighty years. Their governing policies were extremely harsh and cruel.
Politically, they 'absolutely allow our people no democratic freedom whatsoever,' the number of prisons they establish surpasses even that of schools. They 'ruthlessly slaughter' the patriots of our nation. They 'implement barbaric policies,' weakening our race with opium and alcohol. The French colonialists are incredibly cunning, establishing three different political regimes in three regions to prevent our country from unifying and divide our people's solidarity.
Economically, they 'exploit our people to the bone,' 'plundering land, mines, and resources,' imposing countless unreasonable taxes that plunge our people into dire poverty and misery. Most cruelly, they caused the famine in 1945 killing over two million of our compatriots. Their tactics are extremely brutal, revealing their fundamentally inhumane nature. It is genocide. They aim to erase our nation from the world map, to annihilate our race so they can easily invade and rule. Just within five years, 'they sold our nation to Japan twice' yet they boast of 'protection,' 'civilizing.' Moreover, they assert Indochina as their colony when in reality they surrendered to Japan, making Indochina a Japanese colony, and our people regained freedom and independence from the Japanese fascists, not from the French colonialists. They brutally terrorize the Viet Minh, 'even when fleeing, they heartlessly slaughtered the majority of political prisoners in Yen Bai and Cao Bang.' Their tactics are not only cruel but their character is also despicable, treacherous. However, out of our humanity, 'after the March 9 revolution, the Viet Minh helped many French escape across the border, saved many French from Japanese prisons, and protected their lives and property.' Our people always uphold the banner of righteousness and 'maintain a forgiving attitude' towards our enemies. Meanwhile, the French colonialists are cruel, inhumane, the war they brought upon our people is an unjust war. They betrayed their allies, colluding with the fascists to expand their colonial invasion. The words 'absolutely not,' 'barbaric,' 'ruthlessly slaughter,' 'bathe,' 'bloodbath,' 'exploit to the bone,'... demonstrate the author's abhorrence towards their atrocities.
By exposing the true nature of the French colonialists, Ho Chi Minh affirmed the fighting spirit and unity tradition of our people. He declared 'completely severing colonial ties with France, abolishing all treaties France signed regarding Vietnam, abolishing all French privileges in Vietnam.' We 'regained Vietnam from Japan not from France.' Thus, our country has no more ties to French colonialism. We 'resolutely oppose their schemes' and we are 'determined to fight and win to regain independence, freedom for the nation.' With such compelling evidence, reasoning, our allied countries cannot but recognize the independence of our nation. Ho Chi Minh asserted: 'A nation that has bravely fought against French slavery for over 80 years, a nation that has stood with the Allies against fascism for many years, that nation must be free! That nation must be independent!' From the practical basis of the French colonialists' crimes, he proclaimed to the world: 'Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence, and the truth has become a free, independent country. The entire Vietnamese people are determined to devote all spirit and strength, lives and property to maintain that realm of freedom, independence.'
With a resolute tone, sharpness, along with authentic evidence and rigorous reasoning, the practical basis of the declaration, in particular, and Ho Chi Minh's entire declaration, in general, affirmed Vietnam's complete independence, freedom. At the same time, this work also demonstrates Người's political style clearly.
