Everyone will have memorable moments in their lives, precious memories that will stay with us throughout our lives. Everyone has such memories, and for Thanh Tinh, perhaps what he cannot forget is the memory of his first day at school. All the thoughts, emotions conveyed by the poet through the work 'My First Day at School.' The work contains unique comparative images that carry strong artistic value.
The first day of school always leaves deep impressions on everyone, indeed that feeling is so strong that every autumn, people cannot help but recall it. Those were the chilly autumn days, the vast sky, but that was 30 years ago. However, even though time has passed, even though those people have grown up and matured, the memories, the emotions of a childhood carrying books to school, he still cannot forget. That feeling is so pure, everything happens naturally like 'several fresh smiling flowers amidst the vast sky.' Flowers and grass represent the nobility, the purity of the earth and the sky, flowers always bring a comfortable feeling, purify the soul of people. Indeed, Thanh Tinh used the image of fresh flowers to describe the emotions welling up in his heart as natural, and he is accepting them, immersing himself to relive the old days.
Being a child, everyone has moments of innocence, sometimes trying to show that they have grown up, sometimes wanting to do things themselves but the awkwardness and inexperience do not allow them to fulfill their desires. And when still a child, Thanh Tinh also had such moments. On the first day carrying books to school, awkwardly following his mother, full of excitement, emotion. It's still the familiar village road, still the everyday scenery but today everything suddenly changes to be strange and the child realizes that change comes from going to school today. Wearing new clothes and the child suddenly feels grown up, in that innocent thought, many things arise, he feels he needs to be responsible for his life more, feels he must study hard and no longer have time to play with friends as usual. To prove that he has grown up, the boy wants to hold the books himself, wants to be proud with his friends but when his mother tells him to let her hold them, he thinks that is the job of an expert. The innocent thought arises suddenly like the passing clouds over the mountain peak, and now after decades of recollection, the author cannot contain his feelings.
The next comparative image that the author uses is the Mỹ Lí School. School is a place to educate people, it is the second home that everyone spends their childhood with. Indeed, Thanh Tinh was very clever when comparing 'Mỹ Lí School looks both cute and solemn like the communal house in Hoa Áp village.' In the mind of a child stepping into that large school for the first time, besides the feeling of strangeness, confusion, he also recognizes the dignity and solemnity of the school. Before, there was also a time when he passed by the school when going out to play with his friends but at that time, in the eyes of the child, the school was just something unfamiliar but now when he is about to become a part of it, he feels it is cute and solemn beyond measure. The child's perception of the school has begun to change and those are the first emotions of the journey to adulthood.
