Before the August Revolution, people's lives fell into a state of despair. They were pushed to the brink, trampled mercilessly. Some were subdued by circumstances, leading to the loss of their humanity, the loss of their inherent nature. Some struggled to avoid tarnishing their noble character, but despite their efforts, they could not save themselves from the same harsh life. So they chose to take their own lives, completely different from those above. Some tried to escape their life's tragedy, begged but were not heard, endured humiliation and pain but could not endure it anymore, so they rose up to fight back. They gambled their lives on a game whose outcome they already knew, but they still did it, because everyone has their limits, and the power of love told them to rise up, to break free from the filth that was trampling their lives. That is Sister Dau in the excerpt 'Stormy Waters,' a virtuous woman who fell into the tragedies of life like countless other miserable people in the old society. In the excerpt, Ngo Tat To successfully depicted the psychology of the character Sister Dau.
