The melancholic autumn evening blankets the entire scene. The stillness of the weather holds the footsteps of those far from home, 'still not returning home'. In a moment of encountering the familiar sight of 'Quan họ flowers' in full bloom by the riverside, the romantic character gazes upon the entire scenery:
'the water flows as it always has
evening remains the reaper's tongue
what the river wishes to convey
sails are singing aloud'
Through the metaphorical structure 'the water flows as it always has/ evening remains the reaper's tongue', the poet emphasizes the unchanged scenery of the homeland. Standing out against the vast expanse of the river landscape are the images of boats. The poet is truly sensitive in depicting a seemingly 'quiet' but 'active' state of them. Each sail is personified 'singing aloud', not only portraying the state of being 'filled with wind' but also expressing the joy in people through songs and melodies.
The natural landscape painting expands even further with its masterful strokes:
'clouds over Việt Yên
inviting shadows to Bố Hạ
rice plants bowing, concealing fruits'
fields swaying in the gentle breeze'
The choice and use of words reveal the poet's unique and intriguing associations. The distant sky gradually softens, perhaps to 'invite shadows to Bố Hạ'. Lowering one's gaze, the romantic character discovers the image of 'bowed rice plants', 'swaying fields'. The heavy ears of rice swaying gently signal an abundant harvest season. The vast, expansive fields by the Thương River are bathing in the breeze, evoking each wave of 'green'. What a serene and harmonious natural scene!
Following the flow of the countryside river, the poet perceives:

It can be seen that each object operates in its own unique way. The 'colored water', also known as sediment-laden water, still 'flows obediently' into the 'channels', carrying nutrients to the fields. Through the concise five-word verse form, familiar poetic imagery, intimate language, and emotionally charged words combined with literary devices such as personification 'the river wants to speak', simile 'eyes long like betel knives' vividly depict the Thương River landscape in the autumn evening. 'Traveling throughout the autumn day

As someone returning from afar on an autumn evening, yet the beauty of the river has captivated the author, causing him to wander endlessly 'still not returning home'. The two lines 'the water flows as it always has/ evening remains the reaper's tongue' evoke many thoughts about a late afternoon. As the sun gradually descends beneath the mountains, the surrounding glow turns into scythes shining down on the gently rippling river. Additionally, there are Quan họ flowers adorning the water surface, 'blooming purple by the river', and faintly visible sails in the distance. Here, the author uses personification 'flowers' - 'swaying', 'the river wants to speak', 'sails are singing aloud' to make the verses more vivid, turning the river into a sentient entity, with companions, with emotions. With the first two stanzas, the author has depicted the autumn evening by the Kinh Bắc river so gently, calmly, and full of poetic charm.

On both sides of the river, rice plants are 'bowing, concealing fruits', signaling an impending abundant harvest. The entire fields are brimming with vitality, lush and vibrant, as the gentle breeze sweeps over them, swaying like green waves.
To further engrave the beauty of the fields and the influence of the river on them, the author writes:

The river itself supplies water to the fields through the channels. Sediment in the water makes the mud layer 'shine brightly', rich in nutrients, helping rice plants grow, 'new shoots poking out'. Huu Thinh also asserts that the Thương River itself helps the harvest become more vibrant, 'our land prosperous'. The two lines 'what we entrust, soon golden all around' carry a lot of hope. 'we' here could be the author, or diligent farmers who diligently care for the fields early in the morning. 'what we' are sweat and effort, love, hope for a warm and happy future. From the bright hopes, rightfully so, the poet praises the familiar but extremely useful 'sediment grains' for plants, agriculture, containing a miraculous dyeing effect 'like a fairy tale'.
Therefore, the author praises the Thương River in the next line:
'oh the brown river'
'oh the azure river'
'offering to the nearing harvest
'nurturing the fading season'.
During normal times, the river takes on a gentle, beautiful azure color. When it rains, the water rises, and the river turns into a reddish-brown hue of sediment. These sediment grains 'offer to the nearing harvest / nurture the fading season'. When it comes to the harvest season, the sediment will provide more nutrients to the rice grains, making them more valuable. After each harvest season, the land loses its nutrients, and the sediment replenishes it with richer soil. Therefore, no matter what color it takes on, the Thương River remains beautiful. It not only captivates people but also brings many benefits and joys to life.
