If you're using the Android 10 operating system, some apps already provide the option to retain data after uninstallation. This allows you to preserve all information when reinstalling the app. Currently, though not widely adopted, this feature is available in a few apps, including WhatsApp.
Android 10 apps enable data preservation after uninstallation.
According to Android Police, when uninstalling a compatible app from the home screen or app settings menu, a window with multiple options will appear, asking if you want to save the data; it will also inform you of the required storage space. However, if you uninstall an app directly from Google Play Store, you won't be able to use this data-saving option.
Aside from preserving data for future use upon reinstalling the app, this feature proves useful in scenarios like reclaiming space on your device for another application. By retaining data, you can access the storage by uninstalling the app without starting from scratch after reinstalling. It's also convenient when dealing with errors that require reinstalling the app. Using this option ensures you won't lose any data.
Currently, only a few apps have updated this feature, with WhatsApp and ASR Voice Recorder. It's hoped that other app developers will decide to add this option to their apps, and it seems likely as the demand for Android 10 usage continues to rise.
