To commemorate World Emoji Day, Google shared a list of 117 new emoji expressions that the company will unveil alongside Android 11 later this year. They include 62 new characters, 55 skin tones, and gender options. The new emoji expressions focus on 'empathetic expression,' various cultures, and ethnicities. This is evident through the addition of new emoji expressions for bubble tea, Tamale, drum, piñata, people hugging, and much more.

New additions to the emoji list include some animal species such as buffalo, conch, polar bear... Google collaborated with Monterey Bay Aquarium and Victoria Bug Zoo to give these new animal emojis a realistic appearance. Some emojis have also been redesigned to look more appealing when users switch to Dark mode. Google has also restored the design of some popular emojis that they previously modified.

The new emoji set will be part of the final release of Android 11, slated for launch in September this year. However, you won't have to wait until then to use them. With the latest Gboard beta update, Google has introduced a quick access emoji bar, allowing users to easily find the emojis they're looking for. Although the new emojis can be found in the latest beta release, they are not currently displayed in the search results of this emoji bar.
