While Anker is well-known for mobile accessories like charging cables, the company takes a bold step into the 3D printing domain. Their 3D printer brand, AnkerMake, introduces its inaugural model, the M5, currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter. Anker claims that the M5 addresses a key challenge in 3D printers, which is printing speed.
The AnkerMake M5 has a baseline printing speed of 250 mm/s, adjustable down to 50 mm/s for high-detail prints. However, for those who don't want to wait, the M5 can accelerate printing up to 10 times, reaching 2500 mm/s, thanks to PowerBoost technology - enhancing the Y-axis movement speed. Anker incorporates stepper motors, dual belt-driven systems, and algorithms to ensure fast yet stable bed movements. While resulting prints may be coarser and with lower detail, they are suitable for prototyping or casual creations. The M5 promises a 70% reduction in average printing time compared to conventional 3D printers. With a precision of up to 0.1 mm, it can accommodate models with a maximum size of 235 x 235 x 250 mm.
The Ultra-Extruder system shines on the M5; Anker reveals advancements in the plastic extrusion mechanism. It features a multi-tiered gear system, creating high torque to increase pressure on the heated plastic chamber, resulting in a faster extrusion process. The 60 W melting system rapidly raises the nozzle temperature to 200°C, ensuring a continuous, smooth filament release during fast printing. The quick cooling system utilizes two large air blowers to cool the printed model rapidly.
Furthermore, this machine doesn't require users to stand by for monitoring. It integrates an AI camera for 24/7 monitoring day and night, equipped with infrared sensors. It autonomously detects issues such as clogged nozzles or other malfunctions and sends notifications to users on their phones. The integrated camera also includes a time-lapse recording function, documenting the printing process. M5 offers multiple control options, including a built-in touchscreen on the machine, remote control via computer or phone, and compatibility with virtual assistants like Google and Alexa.Currently, the M5 is crowdfunding on Kickstarter. At the time of writing, it has gained support from 4550 backers, raising over 2.7 million dollars, far surpassing the initial goal of 50 thousand dollars with 44 days remaining in the campaign. To be among the earliest owners of the AnkerMake M5 3D printer, enthusiasts can contribute a minimum of 599 USD.
