Yesterday, Apple announced the addition of over 70 emoticons and emojis in iOS 12, macOS Mojave, and watchOS 5, scheduled for release later this year. These new emoticons are based on characters previously approved in Unicode 11.0.
Users have additional options to customize emoticons, emojis, various skin tones, and hair colors. Facial emoticons include expressions like cold face, party face, pleading face, and face with hearts. Additionally, there are superhero characters, kangaroos, shrimp, parrots, and a range of other emoticons, all set to be unveiled later this year.
Earlier this year, Apple also proposed new emoticons and emojis representing people with disabilities. The company also added a range of new emoticons in the minor release iOS 11.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices released last September, as well as macOS and watchOS updates.
The new emoticons and emojis that the company is about to add will be available to users of iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, and Mac. It's unclear whether Apple will add these emoticons and emojis in the new operating system versions to be released in September or in subsequent minor releases.
