Today, Apple has included the Thunderbolt Display and first-generation iPad Air in its list of obsolete products.
This means that these devices are no longer eligible for hardware repair or other hardware services at Apple Stores or Authorized Service Providers.
Thunderbolt Display and iPad Air are classified as 'obsolete' products by Apple. It's known that Apple categorizes a product as obsolete when more than 7 years have passed since the company stopped selling it. Apple discontinues all hardware services for obsolete products, and service providers cannot order components for them. Both Thunderbolt Display and iPad Air ceased production in 2016.
Introduced in 2011, the Thunderbolt Display features a 27-inch screen with 1440p resolution, a 720p camera, three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 800 port, Gigabit Ethernet, and Thunderbolt. Priced at $999, the Thunderbolt Display was Apple's last branded monitor until the Pro Display XDR was released in 2019.
Meanwhile, the original iPad Air was introduced in 2013 with a 9.7-inch display and an A7 chip. It was advertised as being 20% thinner and 28% lighter, with 43% narrower screen borders compared to the previous generation iPad.
Apple has also just added the fifth-generation iPad to the list of old products. Apple considers a product as old when it has been more than 5 years since the company stopped selling it, but it still qualifies for hardware repair services from the company.
