Apple will release the iOS 11.3 beta trial today. The first beta version is available to registered developers, but it does not mention the Message on iCloud feature, a new feature allowing users to save, back up messages on iPhone, or other attachments in the messaging app on iCloud.
This feature had previously appeared in the iOS 11.2.5 development cycle that Apple released earlier this week for all supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, but the feature was later removed in the next beta version. You can check how to update to iOS 11.2.5 here.
The iOS 11.3 update will reintroduce Messages on iCloud, and users can hope the final iOS 11.3 version will be released this spring. Messages on iCloud is designed to help users free up space on their devices by storing messages on iCloud, as well as to sync more easily across new iPhone, iPad, or Mac devices.
Of course, the feature will also affect message deletion. For example, when Messages on iCloud is activated and you delete messages, conversations from one device, the messages will also be deleted from all other devices.
How to Activate Messages in the Cloud on iOS 11.3
If your device is running iOS 11.3 beta, you can experience the Messages on iCloud feature right now. However, other iPhone, iPad devices must also run iOS 11.3 beta and Mac must run macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 beta. To activate Messages on iCloud, open the Settings app, tap on your name at the top of the Settings screen, then access the iCloud section. If you don't have an iCloud account, you can create an iCloud account following the steps here.
On the iCloud screen, scroll down until you find Messages and toggle the switch to ON. Exit the Settings app and open the Messages app. You'll see the Messages on iCloud screen as below, click Continue to close the screen and continue using the Messages app.
The feature will run automatically in the background and save everything for you (if you have enough iCloud storage).
