Apple is currently testing the M3 chip, expected to debut alongside Mac in 2023

According to DigiTimes, Apple's main semiconductor manufacturing partner, TSMC, is in the trial production phase of the 3nm process-based SoC generation for Mac computers, tentatively named M3, slated to launch alongside Mac and iPhone devices in 2023. The chip generation for Mac computers will be called M3, while for iPhones, it will be A17. They also estimate that by the end of 2022, TSMC will begin the commercial production process of M3 processing chips, with deliveries expected in early 2023 for Apple.

Previous unofficial sources suggested that Apple Silicon M3 will be equipped with up to 4 semiconductor die chips in a chiplet design, featuring a maximum of 40 CPU processing cores. In comparison, the recently launched M1 Max alongside the new MacBook Pro 14 and 16-inch models only has a maximum of 10 CPU cores. Meanwhile, Apple Silicon M2 will be produced based on TSMC's N4 process, which is essentially 5nm.

As per WCCFTech's report, Apple's M3 chips for Macs are undergoing testing and will be based on TSMC's 3nm process.
