In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman mentioned that Apple has spent around 6 years developing its own custom microLED technology. Earlier this week, Gurman revealed that Apple plans to introduce this display technology with the new Apple Watch Ultra in 2024.

The 'Apple' is believed to have initiated the microLED project, codenamed T159, around 2017. This screen aims to provide improved brightness, color reproduction, and viewing angles, making the images appear as if 'drawn' on the screen glass and replacing components currently supplied by companies like Samsung and LG.
Following the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra in 2024, Gurman hopes Apple's custom microLED display will expand to iPhones, then iPads and Macs. He believes Apple's long-term plan is to bring microLED screens to all its flagship products, but it might take a decade for this technology to appear on Macs due to its complexity in the early stages.
Let's stay tuned for what other surprises the 'Apple' will bring to fans in the future!
