The latest iPhone 13 model was released on September 24th, and those who are among the first to own this smartphone are receiving an error message 'unable to communicate with Apple Watch' when they try to enable the Unlock with Apple Watch feature on their phones. This feature was introduced in April this year as a convenient solution to unlocking the iPhone when users are wearing face masks amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Apple is set to fix the issue of iPhone 13 not unlocking with Apple Watch in the upcoming update.
More than 20 iPhone 13 users have reported a similar issue. Many have said that this feature still works fine on older iPhone models, including the iPhone X and iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 15. Users experiencing the issue have tried troubleshooting by unpairing, resetting both iPhone 13 and Apple Watch, restarting the devices, but none of these methods have proven effective.
In a support document, Apple advises affected users to disable the Unlock with Apple Watch feature in Settings > Face ID & Passcode and use a passcode to unlock their iPhone 13 until the new software update is released.
Apple has not specified which software update will include the bug fix, nor provided a specific timeframe, but users may not have to wait too long. While Apple has only recently begun testing the iOS 15.1 beta, the company is known for quickly rolling out minor updates to address bugs and patch security vulnerabilities.
