Apple is vigorously advancing the development of 6G technology

In the latest Power On newsletter, Gurman explains that Apple is increasingly shifting its focus to 6G, even as they encounter challenges in developing customized 5G mobile modems

In 2021, Apple's initial endeavors related to 6G emerged. Now, the Cupertino-based company is seeking a System Software Architect for Modem to 'coordinate the design and modeling of 6G reference architecture.' Gurman notes that the job listing Apple is hiring for indicates they are truly serious about developing 6G technology

Telecom companies are already working on next-generation 6G networks. In late 2020, Apple joined the Next G Alliance, an industry group established by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) to 'advance North American mobile technology leadership in 6G and beyond over the next decade, while building on long-term evolution.'

Some analysts suggest that this technology could deliver network connection speeds over 100 times faster than 5G. However, 6G is not expected to appear on consumer devices until around 2030.
