Following the release of .6 last week, Apple has now locked signing for iOS 16.5.1. This means iPhone users after upgrading to the latest iOS version will no longer be able to downgrade to iOS 16.5.1.
Apple locks signing for iOS 16.5.1According to 9to5mac, this move from Apple doesn't come as much of a surprise since the company typically stops signing older iOS versions a few weeks after introducing a new iOS version. This action is viewed as part of Apple's efforts to assist users in updating to the latest features and ensuring device security.
Furthermore, in recent years, there have been very few reasons for users to downgrade to older iOS versions, especially since they often update iOS directly over the air (OTA) rather than through iTunes. Previously, most users would downgrade iOS to facilitate jailbreaking.
Currently, the latest official iOS version is iOS 16.6. Additionally, Apple is also testing for an official release to users this fall.
