iOS 16.4 arrives approximately two months after Apple introduced iOS 16.3, an update focused on enhancing security for Apple ID.

Users can now download iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 wirelessly on eligible iPhones and iPads by accessing Settings > General > Software Update. It may take a few minutes for the updates to roll out to all users. Apple has also released version 7.4 for older iPhones to bring some security enhancements.
In terms of new features, iOS 16.4 introduces a total of 21 new emoji characters, including head nods, pink hearts, blue hearts, gray hearts, llamas, deer, black birds, geese, wings, jellyfish, clovers, and more.
It also includes web Safari notifications, improved call audio for clearer calls, Apple Books page flip animations, Podcast updates, new HomeKit architecture, and various other minor changes and tweaks. Apple's full release notes for the update are as follows:

- Call audio will prioritize voice and suppress surrounding noise when making phone calls
- Expanded duplicate album detection in Photos, supporting duplicate photo and video detection in iCloud Shared Photo Library
- VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app
- Added accessibility setting to automatically dim videos when detecting flashing lights or strobe effects
- Fixed issue where parental permission requests for children's apps may not appear on parent's device
- Fixed issue where temperature controls compatible with Matter may not respond when paired with Apple Home
- Optimized issue detection feature on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
