Last year, when Apple unveiled the 10th generation iPhone, also known as the iPhone X, the company also announced that the iPhone X would pave the way for future iPhone devices.
Bloomberg's sources also provide additional details about the new iPhone with a 6.5-inch OLED display, slated for release this year at a lower price point.
According to reports, the upcoming 6.5-inch OLED iPhone will support dual SIM cards, feature a screen resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels, and offer a Gold color option. The current 5.8-inch OLED iPhone has a resolution of 1125 x 2436 pixels, but Apple may introduce another variant at a lower price later this year.
In other words, it's highly likely that this year we'll bid farewell to the 4.7-inch iPhone models like the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, and it's also probable that Apple won't release an iPhone 9. Bloomberg also notes that the new iPhone devices are codenamed D32 and D33.
The upcoming iPhone is expected to be equipped with the A12 chip.
Every year, Apple releases several new iPhone devices with camera enhancements and other features, so this year is no exception. The rumored 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED iPhone models are said to come equipped with the next-generation A12 chip.
Apple typically offers a range of color options for each iPhone model released in the past, but the iPhone X is the only device available in Space Gray and Silver. However, this year, everything could change, and users might have the additional option of a Gold variant.
The new iPhone devices released this year will feature facial recognition and animoji support. Additionally, these devices are likely to run iOS 12, which will be unveiled in June during the WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) event.
