Apple today released the third beta of iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 for developers for testing purposes.
It's known that the latest trial version emerges just 2 weeks after Apple released iOS/iPadOS 16.6 beta 2 to introduce some new features.
Apple releases iOS 16.6 beta 3Developers who have registered can download iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 beta 3 by opening the Settings app, navigating to Software Update, tapping on the “Update Beta” option, and enabling iOS 16 Developer Beta. Note that an Apple ID linked to a developer account is a prerequisite for downloading and installing the beta version.
iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 lay the groundwork for iMessage Contact Key Verification. It aims to allow Apple device owners to verify that they are messaging the intended recipients and not imposters or eavesdropping hackers.
This feature is designed for Apple users facing 'particular digital threats'. Apple stated they designed the iMessage Contact Key Verification feature for journalists, human rights activists, government officials, and others at high risk of cyber attacks.
Apple announced that iMessage Contact Key Verification will be available on iPhone and their other devices at some point in 2023, marking one of the final features we anticipate seeing in iOS 16. In the first two beta releases, hints about iMessage Contact Key Verification were available, but the feature is not yet fully activated.
