Kicking off WWDC23, Apple introduces 3 new Mac machines, including an upgraded configuration for Mac Studio featuring powerful M2 Max and M2 Ultra processors.
The first-generation Mac Studio was introduced in 2021 as a replacement solution for the Mac Pro. While the initial model ran on M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips, Apple now brings the existing M2 Max and the new M2 Ultra, offering even more power for Mac Studio.
Key specifications of the new Mac StudioWhile M2 Max boasts a 12-core CPU and 30-core GPU supporting up to 96GB of RAM, the M2 Ultra doubles all those figures. This new chip features a 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU, and RAM of up to 192GB. The higher-end version of M2 Ultra is available with a 76-core GPU.
According to Apple, M2 Ultra is the largest and highest-performing chip they've ever created, making the new Mac Studio the most powerful desktop Mac ever produced. M2 Ultra is built using second-generation 5-nanometer process and utilizes Apple's breakthrough UltraFusion technology to interconnect the dies of two M2 Max chips, effectively doubling the performance.
M2 Ultra is manufactured using second-generation 5-nanometer process.M2 Ultra comprises 134 billion transistors — over 20 billion more than M1 Ultra. Its unified memory architecture supports memory capacity up to 192GB, over 50% more than M1 Ultra, and has a memory bandwidth of 800GB/s — double that of M2 Max.
M2 Ultra features a more powerful CPU, 20% faster than M1 Ultra, a larger GPU that's up to 30% faster, and a Neural Engine that's up to 40% faster. It also has a media engine twice as powerful as M2 Max to accelerate ProRes video processing.
The new generation Mac Studio starts at nearly $2000.Prices for the second-generation Mac Studio start from $1,999 (~47 million Vietnamese dong).
